“I wish we had more female writers”: Gal Gadot Was Frustrated With Endless “Poor heartbroken girl” in Hollywood Before Fast and Furious

Gal Gadot expressed her frustration with the stereotypical female characters in movies.

Renowned for her portrayal of the Amazonian superhero Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe, Gal Gadot initially gained recognition as Gisele Yashar in the Fast and Furious franchise. Evolving into one of the industry’s leading action stars with roles in films like Red Notice and Heart of Stone, she has consistently advocated for stronger female characters on the silver screen.

“There aren’t enough good roles for strong women,” she said before adding, “Most of the female characters you see in films today are the poor heartbroken girl.” The Red Notice star also highlighted the need for more female writers to bring depth and empowerment to female characters in movies.

“I wish we had more female writers,” she told TheStndrd, as per Cosmopolitan. Talking about her character in the Fast and Furious film series, she shared that she is proud to play an empowering woman like Gisele Yashar. “That’s why I’m so proud of the Fast movies. I feel like Gisele is an empowering woman,” she said.

A still from the Fast and Furious franchise

Gadot was last seen in Netflix’s spy thriller Heart of Stone, in which she portrayed the role of an international intelligence operative. She is expected to reprise her role as Gisele Yashar in the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise as well.

Gal Gadot on Her Potential Return to Fast and Furious

Following her debut in the fourth installment of the film series, Gal Gadot reprised her role as Gisele Yashar in Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6, in which the character seemingly died. However, the actress surprised fans as she returned to Fast X.

When asked about her potential return to the franchise in the next installment, she said that she is excited but does not have much information about it. “Well, I’m going to have to wait for the script just like everyone else,” she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview before adding, “And I’m curious myself.”

The actress also did not reveal much about the resurrection of her character Gisele in Fast X, saying, “That, I can’t tell you.” Reflecting on her debut in the Fast and Furious franchise, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing that it was her first film and appreciating the confidence the creators had in her.

The Fast and Furious franchise is available on Peacock.
