Three-time Grammy winner Lizzo certainly understood the ‘gilded glamour’ theme for the Costume Insтιтute benefit, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan on Monday.
The 34-year-old rapper-singer-flautist wore a black Thom Browne corset gown featuring garter belt cut-outs beneath a glamorous golden embellished coat selected by stylist Jason Rembert.
‘It’s incredible. Hand-beaded – it took 22,000 hours to make this coat,’ Lizzo (born Melissa Jefferson) told Vogue on the red carpet.
‘I’m just so happy to be in it. I feel like a piece of art.’
Hairstylist Shelbeniece Swain coiffed the About Damn Time hitmaker’s partial finger-waved wig and make-up artist Alex Mayo applied her lashes and vampy pout.
Lizzo accessorized her Met Gala look with The Dryads Touch, the ‘most beautiful flute in the world,’ which she received for her birthday last Wednesday.
The SNL host made sure to perform a quick song on the one-of-a-kind hand-made, gold-plated musical instrument.
