Lewis Hamilton revealed he struggles with his fluctuating weight as he admitted he has ‘never been 100 per cent happy’ with his look.

The Formula One champion, 34, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a topless selfie and wrote a candid caption about his lack of body confidence.

In a lengthy statement, he began: ‘Staying in shape is something so many of us struggle with. My weight fluctuates every week with all this travelling. One week I bulk up and then other weeks I lose muscles and put on fat.

‘Can honestly say I’ve never been 100 per cent happy with my look, that’s why I just keep working at it. I have days I can’t be a**ed but then the days I can are so rewarding.

‘Just want to let you know that whilst you are perfect just the way you are, if you want change only you can do it,’ Lewis urged his followers. ‘Hiring a trainer to walk you through it can help but ultimately it’s how much you want it.

‘That’s why I don’t actually have a trainer. That’s my stubborn side. So here’s me, imperfections and all flaws but i chose to keep fighting and working on being a better me.’

In the snap, Lewis showed off his toned abs while posing in a pair of floral swimming trunks from a luxury hotel room.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday the driver retained his 65-point lead and Williams kept their sole point of the season when a court rejected an Alfa Romeo appeal against penalties issued after the German Grand Prix in July.

The 30-second post-race penalties dropped Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi out of the points and lifted Mercedes’ five-time world champion Hamilton up to ninth in the July 28 race with Williams’ Robert Kubica 10th.

A spokesman for the governing body FIA said the International Court of Appeal in Paris had found the protest was not admissible.

Hamilton has called on his Mercedes team to get its act together or risk squandering his seemingly inevitable sixth world championship.

The Briton was angry when a strategic mistake meant he was pitted too late to challenge the Ferrari one-two led by Sebastian Vettel and finished fourth at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Although Hamilton is 96 points ahead of his closest non-Mercedes rival, Charles Leclerc, with 156 available, he is cracking the whip after his serially successful team have slightly lost their way in recent weeks while Ferrari have belatedly surged.

‘We did such a great job at the beginning of the year,’ said Hamilton. ‘But I am under no illusion that my gap in the championship could disappear. It is not won yet. We need to pull our socks up and get on with it.

‘We can squeeze more out of this car and individually we can do better. We don’t feel great right now but that is a good thing. If anyone in the team feels relaxed they need talking to, because we should all be feeling the pain.

‘We will go to the next race and try to rev ourselves up and do a better job. These next few races are going to be tough.’
