Robert Downey Jr.’s Demand Made Avengers: Endgame Co-Stars Utterly Miserable

Robert Downey Jr’s relationship with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is more than special as the actor bounced back to his career, and MCU got a stupendous franchise after Iron Man. It was a win-win for both, but the actor reportedly had one peculiar demand for Avengers: Endgame that was not quite digestible for his co-stars.

Downey Jr’s tenure at MCU is astonishing. Following the success of the first Iron Man that came out in 2008, the studio regained their faith in the character, Downey, and director Jon Favreau. Downey eventually earned the place to make demands at MCU.

Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU tenure ended with Avengers: Endgame after his character, Iron Man’s heroic sacrifice to save the universe. However, the MCU veteran had one request for the makers of Endgame, as revealed by insider Joanna Robinson. Appearing on The Ringer’s The Watch, Robinson revealed Downey’s special request.

“The vibe is interesting… It’s – this isn’t in the book, so it’s exclusive to The Watch – it’s ice cold in the studio because that’s how Robert Downey Jr. likes it. So everyone else had to layer up, because Robert Downey Jr. likes things at a certain degree.”

Perhaps the Iron Man actor was with a heavy heart knowing the end of his character after more than a decade. He isolated himself from the rest, “There’s the little ocean of trailers outside of the studio, but then Downey has his own trailer inside the studio,” Robinson added. Maybe Downey has lived the character enough, but in retrospect to his behavior, one thing is certain, he wanted the peace within while bidding farewell to Iron Man.

While other Avengers, including the superheroes in the original group, could be seen on set hanging out, Robinson said, Downey was in his own world in between takes. The behavior of the actor almost resembled graduating seniors ready to leave the campus forever.

“And so, between takes, everyone hangs out in one spot. So you can just see Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Renner are all sort of sitting around, playing games, and talking to each other. And then slightly off were Sean Gunn and Karen Gillan because they weren’t OG Avengers… They were in their own little duo, but they’re in that movie,” Robinson explained to The Watch.

Adding further, she revealed that “Downey is off in his own world.” And that’s sort of “the between-take vibe. But it very much looked to me like these were the graduating seniors, like ScarJo and Chris Evans and Hemsworth, they just have been through it for a while, they’ve just been through it for a while, they’ve known each other forever.” Downey made his cameo in Spider-Man No Way Home after the demise of Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, but it was not in proportionate to the original timeline.

Avengers: Endgame is available to stream on Disney Plus.
