All-NBA Los Angeles Lakers point forward LeBron James missed out on winning this past week’s Western Conference Player of the Week award for December 18th-24th to Memphis Grizzlies All-Star point guard Ja Morant, per the NBA’s official PR team.
Across three games last week (during which Los Angeles went 1-2), James averaged 30 points on .541/.500/.941 shooting splits, 9.3 rebounds, nine assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in 37.8 minutes per contest.
James will be fine, don’t worry. The man has won more than double the Player of the Week awards (67) of the second-winningest player, fellow Lakers legend Kobe Bryant (33).
Since returning from a 25-game league suspension due to his latest firearm shenanigans, Morant has been absolutely on fire.
In powering Memphis to a 3-0 week, the 6’2″ super-athlete averaged 28 points on .508/.182/.842 shooting splits, nine dimes and 5.7 rebounds a night.
Along with James, Golden State Warriors All-NBA point guard Stephen Curry, Memphis Timberwolves All-Star shooting guard Anthony Edwards, Oklahoma City Thunder All-NBA point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray, and Sacramento Kings All-Star center Domantas Sabonis all also finished as also-rans last week.
Reigning Philadelphia 76ers MVP center Joel Embiid won the honor in the East.
