8 Ideas For Jurassic World 4 That Would Get The Franchise Back On Track

From a Jurassic Park prequel to a complete reboot, there are a few ways the next Jurassic Park/World movie could reignite the franchise.

Trailer:

The future of the Jurassic Park franchise is uncertain, but new movies haven’t been ruled out, raising the question of what direction the saga could head in next to get it back on track. 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion wasn’t well received. Granted, it performed very well worldwide box office – it was the third highest-grossing film of the year after Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick – but it was thinly conceived and is regarded as one of the weakest installments in the franchise.

However, there are ways another installment could pick Jurassic Park/World up off the floor and breathe new life into a franchise that looks as extinct as its monstrous stars, at least in the live-action movie side of things. Whether it starts from scratch, revisits old ideas, changes things up in a big way, or makes minor tweaks, the blockbuster series can rise again with the right vision and execution. Hopefully, a new chapter in one of the highest-grossing movie franchises of all time can bring it back sooner rather than later.

Every Jurassic Park & World Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

Universal Pictures has made five dinosaur-filled Jurassic Park and World movies to date, and here’s how all of them stack up, worst to best.8Recapture The Tone Of The Original Jurassic Park

The Awe-Inspiring, Visceral Suspense Needs To Return

The original Jurassic Park remains one of the finest blockbuster movies ever made. It has that indescribable majesty and magic that only great movies have. It’s awe-inspiring and oozes a visceral suspense that prepares audiences for big moments. None of the films in the franchise have come close to capturing that tone, which is almost palpable. How it could be recreated is a mystery, but it should start with involvement from Steven Spielberg, the master of the summer blockbuster and the original film’s director. If a new installment can reproduce even a fraction of Jurassic Park’s splendor, it’s almost guaranteed to pull the franchise back from the brink.

7Jurassic Park’s Dinosaurs Need To Be Scary Again

Dinosaurs Are Scary, And The Movies Should Reflect That

Scary movies make the heart pound, which adds something to a viewing experience. The first Jurassic Park film had some legitimately frightening moments, as the prehistoric inhabitants of the eponymous park got loose and stalked the visiting humans whose genius and curiosity had brought them into the modern world. It should be like that because dinosaurs are scary. Most are huge, many have dozens of sharp teeth, and all come from a mysterious era millions of years ago. Any future installments should revitalize that fear factor and inject some fright into viewers again. It’s been sorely missing from recent films.

How To Watch Jurassic Park Movies & TV Shows In Order: Chronologically Or By Release Date

The dinosaur adventure franchise has seen numerous film and TV installments, but the Jurassic Park timeline has a couple of confusing bumps to it.6No More Hybrid Dinosaurs

The Indominus Rex And Indoraptor Were Silly

The main stars of the Jurassic Park franchise are undoubtedly the dinosaurs. What made the original so thrilling is that they looked so real – or at least how people imagine real dinosaurs to look. To have those “real” dinosaurs upstaged by fictitious hybrid creatures in the recent installments felt somewhat disrespectful. There shouldn’t be any of those in a future release. They turned the franchise silly, which is why the second trilogy failed to reach the heights of the first. Jurassic Park is science fiction but shouldn’t overstep the mark into fantasy, as it is too hard to take it seriously that way.

5Dinosaur Soldiers

They’ve Been Teased For Too Long Now

Jurassic World

Release DateJune 12, 2015CastBryce Dallas Howard , Chris Pratt , Omar Sy , Jake JohnsonGenresSci-Fi

It’s wild and, frankly, rather ludicrous, but it’s been spoken about for so long that everyone’s curious about seeing the idea come to fruition.

The one exception to the “no hybrid creatures” rule that would be acceptable in the next Jurassic Park movie is a concept that was teased for two decades, ever since Jurassic Park IV was talked about being made. It’s the idea that dinosaurs could be mutated into humanoid creatures – potentially by mixing their DNA with humans’ DNA – to create dinosaur soldiers. It’s wild and, frankly, rather ludicrous, but it’s been spoken about for so long that everyone’s curious about seeing the idea come to fruition. Vic Hoskins wished to weaponize Velociprators in Jurassic World, so the idea remains.

4Closure On The Barbasol Can

Such A Major Cliffhanger Shouldn’t Still Be Ignored

Jurassic Park

Release DateJune 11, 1993CastRichard Attenborough , Sam Neill , Laura Dern , Samuel L. Jackson , Jeff GoldblumGenresAdventure , Sci-Fi , Action

In the first Jurassic Park movie, Wayne Knight’s Dennis Nedry attempted to smuggle dinosaur embryos off Isla Nublar to sell to John Hammond’s corporate rivals and make himself millions. Unfortunately for him, his attempts to flee the island came to a halt when he crashed his jeep, and a Dilophosaurus killed him. His demise resulted in him dropping the Barbasol shaving cream can he was using to smuggle the embryos, and the camera focused on said can as it languished in the mud, suggesting some relevance in the future. That never happened, and it would be great to see it mean something in the next installment.

3A New Cast Of Jurassic Park Characters

The New Movie Should Be A Fresh Start

Jurassic World: Dominion

Release DateJune 10, 2022CastBryce Dallas Howard , BD Wong , Daniella Pineda , DeWanda Wise , Campbell Scott , Jeff Goldblum , Justice Smith , Chris Pratt2 , Dichen Lachman , Mamoudou Athie , Omar Sy , Laura Dern , Sam Neill , Scott Haze , Isabella SermonGenresAction , Adventure , Sci-Fi

The Jurassic Park trilogy had a core cast of actors, including Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern, and the Jurassic World trilogy introduced new stars like Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Jurassic World Dominion united them all, and it was fun to see, but there’s nowhere else for their characters to go now. It’s time to introduce new stars playing new characters to the franchise, perhaps showing the dinosaurs from an entirely new perspective, such as a group of ordinary park visitors or civilians in a world where dinosaurs are running wild. Regardless, the existing characters in the franchise have undoubtedly run their courses.

2A Jurassic Park Prequel

To date, every movie in the Jurassic Park franchise has taken place after the film that was released before it. It may be time to mix things chronologically and release a prequel to the original installment. So much happened before Jurassic Park’s story that it would be great to see it dramatized on film. John Hammond’s flea circus days and his vision for Jurassic Park, the first mosquito found in amber, Henry Wu’s recruitment, Jurassic Park being built, the first dinosaur being born, and so forth. There are many things audiences haven’t seen that they deserve to see which would make a great movie.

1Reboot The Jurassic Park Franchise

Without a doubt, the best thing the Jurassic Park/World franchise can do to revitalize itself is reboot and start again. The original story has now been told and gone way beyond the vision in Michael Crichton’s novel. The park has been built, the animals have escaped, the park has opened, and the animals have entered the real world. There’s little left to do that would tread new ground. Starting again and putting a new spin on the original concept would be intriguing. Real-world science has developed since the original, so there could be some incorporation of recent developments. It would get a new generation interested in Jurassic Park/World.
