Chelsea could sign a new striker before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Chelsea have made an enquiry to sign Callum Wilson on loan from Newcastle United, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
However, Phillips has claimed on his Substack that Newcastle only want to do a permanent deal.
The Evening Standard recently reported that the Magpies could sell Wilson for £18m.
Wilson has been in good form for Newcastle this season, scoring seven goals in 14 Premier League appearances. But the aforementioned outlet states that the club may need to get rid of him because of profit and sustainability rules.

It is quite logical for Chelsea to try and see if they can sign Wilson before the transfer deadline, which they seem to have done.
The Blues are not going to land Napoli’s Victor Osimhen now, for example. The 25-year-old, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations, is a key target.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has even claimed that Osimhen has already chosen Chelsea as his next club. Having just signed a new contract, though, the Nigeria international is not going anywhere in this transfer window.
It means Mauricio Pochettino now needs to look at alternatives and Wilson is not a bad one. As highlighted earlier, he has scored goals this season, while in the last campaign the 31-year-old really impressed.
In 31 top-flight outings, he netted 18 times to help Newcastle to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
Ultimately, we think Wilson could be a good short-term option for Chelsea before they go out and sign a world-class centre-forward like Osimhen. The England international’s injury record, though, will worry some supporters.
But at this stage of the transfer window, there are not many other goalscorers who Chelsea can turn to.
