Real Madrid icon attracting interest from Qatar, MLS and European clubs, contract renewal not ruled out

For some time now, it has felt that this might be Luka Modric’s final season as a Real Madrid player. The 38-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and his role in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans has been slowly diminishing.

As such, it has led to many believing that the Croatian international could very well be moving on at the end of the campaign as a free agent.

No shortage of suitors for Modric

Now, as per The Athletic, Luka Modric has no shortage of suitors if he decides to leave Real Madrid in the summer. Indeed, clubs from Qatar, the MLS, as well as elsewhere in Europe have shown an interest in signing the veteran.

However, the 38-year-old is not ruling out the possibility of signing a new contract and prolonging his stay with the Merengues.

Modric has also been attracting interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, but the thought of playing there does not appeal to him at this point, even though his compatriots, Ivan Rakitic and Marcelo Brozovic, ply their trade there.

No rush to make a decision

The report further states that Real Madrid are not going to rush into taking a call over Modric’s situation. The plan is to wait until later in the season to make the ‘best decision possible’ for the club icon.

The player himself is understood to be in no hurry to decide his next move at the start of February itself.

Modric, who has seen his game-time reduce in recent weeks, understands the club’s strategy of betting on the youth. For now, he is fully focused on finishing the season strongly with Real Madrid and then enjoying a good Euro tournament with Croatia.
