BAFTAs 2024: Emma Stone suffers an awkward blunder as she prepares to accept her Best Actress award at star-studded ceremony

Emma Stone had an awkward moment when she collected her Best Actress award at the 77th EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday.

The Hollywood star, 35, took home the top prize for her role as Bella Baxter in the sci-fi comedy Poor Things but bumped into the cameraman as she leapt out of her seat when her name was announced.

The Cruella star could be seen gesturing at the camera before making her way up to the stage to collect her prize.

After finally collecting her award, Emma made sure to thank her mother Krista for believing in her dreams.

She said: ‘She kind of made me believe this crazy idea that I can do something like this.’

Emma fought off competition from Maestro actress Carey Mulligan, Rye Lane’s Vivian OparahBarbie star Margot Robbie, Anatomy of a Fall actress Sandra Huller and former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino – who had been nominated for her role in The Color Purple – for the gong.

Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy won the Leading Actor award at the BAFTAs.

The 47-year-old actor – who plays the titular role in Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb saga – picked up the prize at the ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

He triumphed in a category which included Bradley Cooper for ‘Maestro’, Colman Domingo for ‘Rustin’, Paul Giamatti for ‘The Holdovers’, Barry Keoghan for ‘Saltburn’ and Teo Yoo for ‘Past Lives’.

Cillian won his award after Nolan paid tribute to his leading man when he collected his Best Director award for ‘Oppenheimer‘.

Robert Downey Jr won the Supporting Actor gong for the film, which was also victorious in the Cinematography and Editing categories.

Earlier, Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the Supporting Actress award for The Holdovers.
