Californian content creator Matt Bravo shared his tips on what tourists shouldn’t do in Los Angeles in a TikTok video he posted in January

The tips are meant to help TikTok users ‘stay safe, save money, and save time’ when they visit Los Angeles. His video has received nearly 1 million views

Early on in the video, Bravo said that tourists should never stay in Hollywood or Downtown LA because of crime and ‘a lot of homeless people.’

‘All throughout the day you’re gonna be hearing sirens go off, the helicopters looking for people. Especially when you’re going to bed,’ he stated.

Other LA-based TikTokers have responded to Bravo’s tip and one even discussed an example of this issue in his own video.

‘I’ve been a part of active stakeouts… I’ve walked outside of my crib and there’ve been police with yellow tape saying, “Nah, bro, go back inside,”‘ said Downtown LA resident Jordan Matthew.

He also hinted that he’s seen more unhoused communities in Downtown LA than in New York, which is where he used to live.

Bravo suggested that tourists look to stay in a safer LA area like ‘West Hollywood or Burbank.’

However, when looking a hotel stay, Bravo stated that tourists should ‘not try to stay near Disneyland.’

Downtown LA resident Jordan Matthew described two crucial things that don’t make the area great: homelessness and crime scenes

‘That is just so far away from all the other tourist attractions,’ Bravo said about Disneyland.

‘If you wanna come and see the Beverly Hills sign, the Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier, those are all a good 45 minutes away from Disneyland without traffic.’

Because of the ‘crazy’ LA traffic, Bravo said that drivers could be waiting an hour just to travel to LAX from Hollywood.

The content creator isn’t even recommending travelers go to LAX, but he did discuss two other California airports.

‘If you can and you’re flying domestically – just fly in through Hollywood Burbank Airport or through the Long Beach Airport,’ said Bravo.

‘They will be significantly faster to get in and out of.’

Once tourists fly in and get settled, they will likely want to visit attractions like the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Bravo provided a crucial tip for those tourists looking to visit that LA attraction.

Bravo called LA traffic ‘crazy’ and said that drivers could spent a long time on the highway when driving to LAX from Hollywood

‘If you are going to go to the Walk of Fame, be aware that there’s gonna be the musicians,’ he revealed.

The musicians will be trying to give out mixtapes and CDs for free, but that price won’t last long.

‘They’re gonna try and give it to you for free,’ said Bravo.

‘Once you accept it, then they’re gonna ask you for money. They will bug you for money.’

Bravo’s advice? ‘Tell them no, and keep it walking.’

Tourists who are looking to go to Erewhon, a popular grocery store frequented by the rich and famous, should avoid buying an overpriced drink there, according to Bravo.

Erewhon is a certified organic retailer with 10 California locations. Two of the locations are in Los Angeles

‘Do not go to Erewhon and get that Hailey Bieber,’ Bravo said firmly of the model’s collaboration with the retailer called the Hailey Bieber’s Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie.

‘I’ve tried it for myself and yes, the smoothie is good, but it’s not worth $17.’

According to Bravo, tourists can spend the same amount of money at a local coffee shop and get something ‘way better’ than the smoothie.

Other TikTokers have written down their own California travel advice and one user even complimented a few areas of Downtown LA.

Social media users have given their own advice on what to do and not do when visiting Los Angeles from staying in good districts, to not swimming in certain Californian waters

One TikToker commented: ‘Skid Row has the best hotels,’ which led video commenters to disagree with him.

However, a few people spoke highly about specific districts in Downtown LA.

‘DTLA is a good place to stay. You just need to know which districts to stay in,’ one person wrote.

Another commented advised TikTokers that Downtown LA is nice if they stay in ‘South Park or the Financial District.’

Other Californian commenters have given their approval of the video and one user even said ‘all is true’ in the video.

Bravo has not responded to many of the comments, but he did explain why the Beverly Hills sign is considered a tourist attraction.

‘People come from all over the world to see the BP sign & rodeo dr,’ Bravo wrote.
