Amid reshoots, the cast of Ballerina has grown, with stars from The Umbrella Academy and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune joining the John Wick spinoff.
As the hotly-anticipated John Wick spinoff undergoes reshoots, two more actors have been added to the cast of Ballerina.
According to Deadline, David Castañeda and Sharon Duncan-Brewster have joined the Ballerina cast amid reshoots abroad. Castañeda currently stars as Diego in The Umbrella Academy and was recently seen in Poker Face. His film credits include The Guilty, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and End of Watch. As for Duncan-Brewster, she has appeared in Dune, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Enola Holmes, and the Netflix series Sex Education. At this time, it is not known who either actor will be playing in the spinoff movie.

Ana de Armas portrays the title character in Ballerina, a young female assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. The character was briefly introduced in the 2019 film John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, played by Unity Phelan, during John Wick’s chat with Anjelica Huston’s character The Director, the head of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate who oversees a program that trains young male wrestlers to be assassins and young ballet dancers to be femme fatales.
Ballerina Reshoots Adding More Action
Ballerina was originally set to hit theaters this June. However, in February 2024, Lionsgate pushed back the John Wick spinoff to 2025, allowing for franchise architect Chad Stahelski to work with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on adding new action sequences to the film. The upcoming spinoff, taking place between the events of the third and fourth John Wick movies, will feature guest appearances from franchise mainstays Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Ian McShane (Winston Scott), and Lance Reddick (Charon). Huston is also back as The Director.

Ballerina isn’t the only John Wick spinoff project currently in the works. Lionsgate Chairman Michael Burns recently announced that another television series was in early development at the company. “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves. I think it’ll be a television series,” he said, during a Q&A at the Morgan Stanley media conference. This will mark the second television series set in the John Wick Universe after the three-part prequel miniseries, The Continental, which aired on Peacock last year. That series followed a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell, in 1975 as he attempts to seize control of the iconic hotel, which serves as a haven for the world’s most dangerous criminals and assassins.
Ballerina is scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
