The 40-year-old actor was set to wave goodbye to his character for good after the third season, which was released in two parts earlier this year.For the already-commissioned fourth season, Australian-born star Liam Hemsworth will fill in for Henry.While many fans speculated his exit was due to his brief return as Superman in last year’s Black Adam, which was later scrapped, director Marc has put forward another idea.

Speaking with Games Radar, Marc, who directed multiple episodes of The Witcher, suggested the “demanding” nature of filming the popular series may have taken a toll on Henry and therefore led to his exit.

“Well, look, Henry has done three series, these are demanding shows to make, you know, they are huge.

“Henry does every single beat of his stunts, he won’t even allow a hand, if you’re doing a close-up of a hand grabbing a sword, it has to be his hand,’ Marc explained.

“So, normally, what you do is you bring in a double, Henry will go off and shoot some other scene in which he’s in somewhere else, and you get somebody else into the hand, so that you don’t have to bother your number one.

“Henry won’t do that, and as a result of that, the results are extraordinary,” he added.

Marc went on to compare working with Henry as “working with an incredible athlete” before noting the two episodes he worked on in the first season were filmed in four different countries, adding Henry spent weeks rehearsing gruelling sword fighting scenes.

“That’s draining on your number one, so after three series, I feel, ‘Okay, he’s brought the show into being, and if he feels like he’s done what he can, I trust him,’” Marc continued.

Marc then praised the star’s extreme dedication and “focus that he has,” and shared that having quality in an actor “is a gift to work with”.
