James Gunn’s cryptic post renews hope that the canceled Looney Tunes movie, Coyote vs. Acme, will be released. The live-action animation hybrid, which Gunn produced and helped develop the story for, was canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery as a tax write-off despite the fact that it had finished filming in May 2022 with a cast that included John Cena and Will Forte. The decision was promptly met with criticism online, including from director Dave Green and others who were involved in the making of the movie.

Now, on Instagram, Gunn shared a cryptic post that has renewed hope that the canceled Coyote vs. Acme movie will be released. Check out the post below:

The post is simply a photo of Wile E. Coyote captioned “❤️” by Gunn, which has sparked discussion that the movie might be released after all.

Why The Canceled Coyote Vs. Acme Movie Might Be Released

It was initially reported that Warner Bros. Discovery had no plans to release Coyote vs. Acme, though subsequent reports revealed that they reversed course after an outcry of criticism from filmmakers. The studio is reportedly giving Green the opportunity to shop the movie to potential buyers instead of canceling the project for a tax write-off. Screenings for potential buyers are said to be taking place in November, with Amazon being the top contender. It’s unclear if Coyote vs. Acme is being eyed as a potential streaming or theatrical release, as Warner Bros. previously considered both options.

It’s also unclear if Gunn’s cryptic post is reacting to news of Coyote vs. Acme being shopped to potential buyers. However, with Gunn being a big-name producer on the movie, it is surely sparking discussion and renewing hope that the Looney Tunes movie might be released after all. However, since previously canceled Warner Bros. movies, the $90 million Batgirl and the $40 million Scoob! Holiday Haunt, will seemingly never be released, Coyote vs. Acme‘s own chances of being released could be similarly slim.
