Fast & Furious 11 release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know

Fast X is the beginning of the end for the Fast & Furious franchise. What are the cast, story, and release date for the upcoming Fast X Part 2?

The next action-packed installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast 11, has exciting story details, a promising cast, and a not-too-distant release date. Fast X marks the beginning of the end for The Fast Saga, kicking off a multipart finale that will wrap up the story of Dom Toretto and his fast and furious found family. Fast X Part 2 follows up on that story as Dom Toretto and his family gets closer to their endgame. Vin Diesel, the star and producer of the franchise, is already building hype around the next Fast & Furious movie.

No Fast & Furious sequel has been as intrinsically linked to its predecessor as Fast 11. Whereas most Fast & Furious sequels are their own standalone action movies, Fast X Part 2 is the second part of the overarching storyline that begins in Fast X. It’s a true sequel in the sense that other entries in The Fast Saga aren’t. Since it’s still in the early stages of development, there aren’t many story details or casting announcements for Fast 11 just yet. However, there are a few things known about the next Fast & Furious movie.

Fast 11 Latest News

The latest Fast X Part 2 news is a slight cause for concern, as a report revealed that Universal wants a new draft of Fast & Furious 11 as soon as possible. A lot of other productions could be in a similar position, as so many shows and movies were put on hold as a result of the 2023 writers’ strike, which lasted for 148 days. It could simply be that the Fast X Part 2 script was in the very early stages when the strike began. However, it could also mean that the studio isn’t completely happy with the screenplay, and there could be significant rewrites underway. Either way, with the movie’s release date less than 18 months away and the script still being written, the movie could potentially be delayed.

Other Fast 11 news teases an evolution with the franchise’s latest villain. Director Louis Leterrier hinted that Jason Momoa’s Dante would change in Fast 11, showing new sides of the already surprising bad guy. Leterrier praised what Momoa brings to the role and how the actor went in an unexpected direction with the villain, saying “was interesting to play with the duality and the push-pull within the character, where within the same sentence he’s laughing and feels the pain of losing everything. Only an actor like Jason could have done that.

However, with Momoa’s Dante confirmed to be returning for more, Leterrier suggested a new direction will be taken for Fast 11, saying “It’s never twice the same with Jason. Dante will truly evolve. Let’s explore something we haven’t seen before.” Momoa’s performance in Fast X was highlighted by many as a high point of the sequel and praised for going against the franchise’s typical villains. Momoa truly made the role his own so it will be interesting to see what new ideas he will bring to the follow-up to keep Dante interesting.

Fast & Furious 11 Is Confirmed

Fast X Part 2 has been officially confirmed to be in development at Universal as a continuation of the story in Fast XFast 11 was confirmed at the same time as Fast X when it was originally planned as a two-part finale. The closest parallel was Marvel’s own two-part climax, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which were similarly announced together. Two-part finales have become common in Hollywood – Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsThe Twilight Saga: Breaking DawnThe Hunger Games: MockingjayMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, etc. – but a three-part finale is unprecedented.

Fast 11 Release Date

According to Vin Diesel himself, the Fast 11 release date is April 4, 2025. This is the kind of quick turnaround that’s come to be expected from the franchise, especially with what is being advertised as the second half of the story that started in Fast X. However, Diesel may have been premature in making the announcement as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes made it hard for any upcoming movie to guarantee a fixed schedule.

President of Universal Pictures Peter Cramer admitted that the strike caused uncertainty for the sequel. In regards to a possible Fast 11 delay, Cramer said “If it lasts for too long, it’ll be hard to imagine that we can get this film up on the timeline we’d like to.” While both strikes are now over, it remains to be seen if Fast X Part 2 will be released on its scheduled date.

Fast 11 Cast

Universal hasn’t announced an official Fast X Part 2 cast list, but it seems inevitable for Diesel to return as the series’ lead, Dom Toretto. Anyone from Dom’s family who isn’t killed off in Fast X will be expected to return in Fast 11: Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges as Tej Parker, Sung Kang as Han Lue, and Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey. Other main cast members, like Jason Statham as villain-turned-ally Deckard Shaw, Helen Mirren as Shaw’s mother Magdalene “Queenie” Ellmanson-Shaw, and Gal Gadot as Gisele, could also reprise their roles in Fast X Part 2.

Dwayne Johnson’s appearance as Luke Hobbs in Fast X’s post-credits scene will likely lead to a larger supporting role in Fast 11. The post-credit scene also teased the possible return of Eva Mendes as Monica Fuentes. Fast X newcomers like Jason Momoa as the villainous Dante Reyes, Brie Larson as rogue agent Tess, and Daniela Melchior as Brazilian street racer Isabel could reappear in Fast 11 as it follows on from Fast X’s ending. In addition to returning cast members, Diesel has announced that he wants Robert Downey, Jr. to play the villain in Fast X Part 2. He described the villain conceived for Fast 11 as “the antithesis of Dom.

Who’s Directing And Writing Fast & Furious 11

Universal has confirmed that Fast X director Louis Leterrier is returning to direct Fast 11. Leterrier managed to turn around Fast X under immense pressure. He was brought on as a last-minute replacement after long-time Fast & Furious director Justin Lin left the franchise due to creative differences. Since Lin departed from the project right before filming was set to begin, Leterrier had far less prep time to shoot Fast X than filmmakers usually get with these big-budget franchise tentpoles. After he pulled off Fast X under these circumstances, the studio has enough faith in Leterrier to bring him back for Fast X Part 2.

Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel have been confirmed as the screenwriters for Fast 11. Hodson is best known for writing Bumblebee and Birds of Prey, while Uziel is known for his work on the scripts for 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox. Leterrier has teased that he’s planning something even bigger than Fast X for Fast 11. The director explained, “What we’re planning on the next one is just gigantic, in terms of action, scope, and emotion.” He’s promised that Fast X Part 2 will not only thrill audiences but also tug on their heartstrings: “You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll.

Story Details For The Next Fast & Furious Movie

While the specifics of the Fast 11 story are being kept under wraps for the time being, the cast and crew have teased plot elements for the next Fast & Furious movie. As the second part of the overarching Fast X narrative, Fast X Part 2 will follow on from the cliffhanger ending of Fast XFast 11 will also provide a true farewell to Brian O’Conner, the franchise’s co-lead played by the late Paul Walker. Diesel said that ending Brian’s story is integral to ending the Fast & Furious series: “I couldn’t imagine this saga ending without truly saying goodbye to Brian.

There is also the question of the Fast X cliffhanger teased Hobbs’ return to the franchise. While Dwayne Johnson seemed to suggest there will be a spinoff movie for Hobbs, it also seems that he will be brought back for the sequel now that he and Diesel have mended their relationship. It is possible Hobbs could play a pivotal role in saving the day once again.

Will Fast 11 Be The Last Fast & Furious Movie?

While it’s part of the Fast X finale, Fast X Part 2 won’t be the last Fast & Furious movie. Although it was originally conceived as the final chapter of the mainline saga, Vin Diesel has teased that Fast & Furious 12 will conclude the saga instead. It’s unlikely that Universal will let the lucrative Fast & Furious brand die. There could still be Fast & Furious spin-offs like Hobbs & Shaw 2 after Fast 11 and Fast 12 have wrapped up the Toretto family storyline.

Fast 11 Trailer Info

While there’s no Fast X Part 2 trailer yet, it’s possible to speculate on when one could arrive. The first trailer for Fast X dropped online on February 10, 2023, a little over three months before the film’s release date. This was one year and seven months after F9 was released in theaters. If the Fast 11 trailer debuts a year and a half after Fast X’s release, then the Fast X Part 2 trailer could arrive in late 2024. If it’s three months before Fast 11’s release date, then it’ll more likely arrive in early 2025.
