An awful Monday game for the Kansas City Chiefs will have the team scrambling and looking for answers.
The 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders showed some serious issues with the team’s offense – especially from their typically unflappable quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes only threw for 235 yards and a touchdown, while also causing a fumble and an interception that were both returned for Raiders scores.
It was a performance worth criticism – and that’s exactly what came for him via NFL Network analyst and Hall-of-Famer Kurt Warner.
‘Watched #Chiefs [offense] & could have been worst overall game by this O in Mahomes era,’ Warner said on Twitter.
Patrick Mahomes may have had one of his worst losses in a Chiefs uniform on Monday
Hall-of-Famer Kurt Warner said Mahomes looked off and that the Chiefs were ‘bad everywhere’
Mahomes turned the ball over twice, directly leading to two touchdowns for Las Vegas
‘1st credit #RaidersD who out-coached & out played KC, 2nd KC was bad everywhere [Mahomes] missed reads & throws, concepts were confusing, got manhandled upfront, etc… it’s getting late ppl!’
Mahomes was clearly not a fan of his own performance – with the reigning MVP seen screaming on the sideline, a previously shocking scene that has become commonplace for the Texas Tech product.
‘There were just mistakes, offensively,’ Mahomes said after the game. ‘The defense played a good game. … ‘You see glimpses of us moving the football. You see glimpses of us scoring in the red zone.
‘It’s just we haven’t done it consistently enough, game in, game out. We have one good game, one bad game, one good game, one bad game.
‘We have to be more consistent because when you get to the playoffs you have to string some together. So, I think our focus this week is how can we get better against Cincinnati and find a way to beat a good football team.’
Mahomes mixed things up on a handoff he took from Isiah Pacheco, which was turned over and recovered by Bilal Nichols for a Raiders TD. The next play, Jack Jones picked Mahomes off and waltzed into the end zone.
That meant Las Vegas had put up 14 points in 10 seconds – ultimately being the decider in this game.
‘We’ve got to clean it up,’ Mahomes said. ‘We’ve got two games left. We have to do it and if we don’t we’ll be going home. So, if we clean it up we can beat anybody, but we have to prove we can do it.’
