Chelsea transfer news with the latest Blues stories and headlines from the market plus the football.london perspective
Chelsea were always going to be busy in January but as the pressure remains on Mauricio Pochettino to try and turn things round following a disappointing start to life back in London his second transfer window has come quickly. Halfway through his first season back in England and the boss is failing to win fans over.
The owners are also taking their fair share of criticism having failed to see an upturn in performances since their takeover in May 2022. It has been largely downhill since then and there is little confidence in the current group as they seek to make amends for damage already done.
For Pochettino and Chelsea they will hope to make use of the upcoming window to ensure that output in both boxes improves. However, without sales there may not be much room for deals to be done due to the lavish spending of the past 18 months.
Here, football.london has the latest from the market with unique perspective on what certain deals might mean for the club and for Pochettino. Starting, as is standard for Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, with another youngster.
Despite the calls for more experience Chelsea are said to be eyeing up 20-year-old Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards and will consider another bid for the player next month. Edwards has been on Chelsea’s radar sometimes and had bids rejected for the player in 2022,football.london understands.
Along with Edwards, the Athletic report that there are yet more South American youth targets being looked at. However, with Edwards already building a profile in the English game – the League One starlet is capped at both Under-19 and Under-20 level as a regular with England – he is perhaps more likely.
