One Piece's Latest Egghead Arc Gets Shock Netflix Release Date

In a surprise move, Netflix reveals when the latest One Piece arc, Egghead, will come to the platform, just days after Marineford’s release date.

In a surprise move by Netflix, the latest One Piece storyline, the “Egghead” arc, has received an official release date, having only very recently also announced its release of the “Marineford” arc

Netflix announced via X (formerly Twitter) that One Piece‘s currently-running “Egghead” arc will arrive to the platform on Jan. 13, 2024. “On an island with technology and science beyond comprehension, what deep secrets will the Straw Hat Crew uncover in Egghead? One Piece: Egghead Arc is coming to Netflix, January 13! 🏴‍☠️” the official post reads. This has come as a major shock to the fan base, many of whom were overjoyed at the news.

The announcement comes just days after Netflix announced that One Piece: Marineford had been added to the platform. With Crunchyroll also licensing the One Piece anime, Crunchyroll will likely have the simulcast while Netflix will stream each episode a week after its initial release in Japan. Nevertheless, the move is yet another example of Netflix’s increased foray into anime. A recent data report revealed that over a hundred million hours of anime were watched on Netflix in the first half of 2023. Netflix is also building close relationships with original creators, as seen with The Seven Deadly Sins‘ Nakaba Suzuki, whose first canceled work, Rising Impact, will now be getting an anime.

However, Netflix’s biggest investment in creators may be best seen in One Piece. In collaboration with WIT Studio, it was announced that One Piece will be receiving a remake from the first arc titled The One Piece. This prompted many Japanese fans to muse on social media about whether it was getting a remake due to Weekly Shonen Jump‘s clear dislike of Toei Animation’s version. While many were excited about the new series, fans have also expressed their fear at possible AI use in the remake, citing WIT’s mention of “cutting-edge technology.”

Fans will soon be able to check out the latest “Egghead” arc on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. The arc officially started airing on Jan. 7, 2024, kicking off with Episode 1089, “Entering a New Chapter! Luffy and Sabo’s Paths!” complete with brand-new opening and ending theme songs.
