Patrick Mahomes will have do one thing he’s never done if Chiefs are to advance past the Bills on Sunday

The Buffalo Bills beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 on Monday evening to set up a Divisional Round clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs were awaiting the winners of the Bills-Steelers game having come through the Miami Dolphins 26-7 in freezing conditions on Sunday night.

Bills QB Josh Allen will pose an entirely different threat to Mahomes and the Chiefs

The mouth-watering Bills-Chiefs contest will pit two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks against one another in Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.

However, if Mahomes is to get past Allen and the Bills in Buffalo, he will have to do something he’s never done before in his career.

Win a road playoff-game.

Since entering the league in 2017, all of Mahomes’ 15 career playoff games have been played in Kansas City or in a Super Bowl.

Until now, he has never played a playoff game outside of the confines of Arrowhead Stadium – attesting to his superb regular season record (74-22) over the past few seasons which has seen KC consistently finish as the AFC’s No.1 seed.

During that time, Mahomes’ playoff record stands at 12-3.

He is of 10-2 in postseason games at home and is 2-1 in neutral-site games having lost Super Bowl 55 against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In his seven seasons in the NFL, Mahomes has only played in Buffalo once before – a 26-17 victory over the Bills in Week 6 of the 2020 season.

He completed 22 of 27 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns but did so in an empty stadium due to strict COVID-19 policies.

This time around he will have to play in front of a raucous home crowd made up of the infamous Bills Mafia – who we’ve already seen are willing to do whatever it takes to win.

The two teams have already faced each other once this season, in Week 14 at Arrowhead which the Bills won 20-17.

Mahomes lost his cool at the end of that encounter after wide receiver Kadarius Toney was correctly ruled offside to scrub out a go-ahead score.

“Worst f****** call I’ve ever seen,” Mahomes said after the game while shaking hands with Allen.

“That was f****** terrible.”

Both teams posted an identical record of 11-6 this season but because of that win in Kansas City it’s the Bills who own the head-to-head record.

As a result, the Bills finished as the AFC’s No.2 seed while the Chiefs secured the No.3 seed, meaning Buffalo get to play at home in the Divisional Round on Sunday.
