Selena Gomez is set to guest star in a planned sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place – the popular show that turned her into a teen idol.

Original star David Henrie is also onboard to star in and executive produce for the potential reboot, which for now has just been commissioned as a pilot, Deadline reports.

The fantasy teen sitcom – created by Todd J. Greenwald – originally aired on the Disney Channel for four seasons between October 2007 and January 2012.

It’s a somewhat surprising move for Gomez who appears to be venturing into more serious acting roles (pictured above last year at the Oscars museum)

‘But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard (Brown) in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.’

It’s a somewhat surprising move for Gomez who appears to be venturing into more serious acting roles, just a week after it was revealed she would be portraying Linda Ronstadt in a biopic.

That project is being helmed by four-time Oscar nominee David O. Russell – who directed Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2013.

Gomez also stars in the hugely popular Only Murders in the Building – the comedy-mystery television series created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman.

Its popularity has attracted the likes of big name stars, most recently the Golden Globes GOAT Meryl Streep.

Outside of acting, Gomez has found success with her cooking show Selena + Chef on HBO Max, which has been running for an impressive five seasons so far.

All these TV and film project come as the star is said to be winding down her music career.

The Texas native recently shared that she feels as if she still has one more album in her.

Gomez – who has been romancing music producer Benny Blanco – told Smartless podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, ‘I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun.

‘But I was doing my TV show [Wizards of Waverly Place] at the same time, and I just found it really fun, so I just kept going. ‘But the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, “I would like to find something to just settle on.”

‘And if she had to choose which career path to choose right now, it wouldn’t be her music.

‘I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting,’ she concluded.
