Late last year in December 2022, Mariah gushed to E! News that both her children have ‘inherited’ her musical talent, and added that the two, ‘are both such creative geniuses! Honestly their tone when they sing is so beautiful, and I’m so thankful that they inherited that from me.’
The former couple first crossed paths back in 2005 at the Teen Choice Awards and were romantically linked in 2008. Later that same year in May, the two stars said ‘I do’ during a lavish ceremony in the Bahamas.
In April 2011, Nick and Mariah welcomed their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, to the world. However, in 2014 the pair split and filed for divorce, which wasn’t finalized until November 2016.
During an interview with The Los Angeles Times earlier this year in May, he briefly touched on his past marriage with the songstress, and the divorce.
At the time of the split, Nick explained that the situation was rocky and compared it to ‘Trump and Putin’ living ‘in the same house.’ However, he clarified that both he and Carey are ‘good.’
‘It wasn’t even about her and I — we’ve always been good. It was more about us understanding that instead of making it about our relationship and what I want or what you want, we should just do what’s best for the children,’ he expressed.
In her own 2020 memoir titled, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, she also opened up about the marriage, and had positive words to say about her ex-husband. ‘He was a good guy. He was faith-based,’ she wrote, per People.
‘He was ambitious. He had been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so he understood the madness. He paid attention to me.’
The Obsessed hitmaker added, ‘Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed…’ while later writing, ‘It was tough. We both wanted to make sure everything was cool for our family. We will always be family, and we make it work.’
Last year in May, Nick made an appearance on the It’s Tricky With Raquel Harper podcast and revealed that he didn’t have plans to marry again following his failed marriage to Mariah. ‘I mean this is the thing, it depends on what you call marriage.’
‘Getting the government involved in my relationship, like that whole paperwork stuff? No, but if it’s something on a spiritual or holistic ritual I’m all for it,’ he explained. ‘We can go have a ceremony somewhere…why would government be involved in your love life?’

In memory: Earlier last month in June, Cannon commemorated his late baby boy’s birthday by spending time at the beach with loved ones
Heartfelt tribute: The group also released a bundle of lit up balloons into the night sky in memory of Zen
‘Like that just seems so bizarre to me because if you go to the core of what it was all about it’s really a business and to bring business and love together, I’ve experienced it, that’s a tough one to get involved with,’ Cannon added.
However, he labeled his marriage to the We Belong Together singer ‘one of the greatest experiences’ and then asked, ‘For that to come to an end as well, why would I go back if I couldn’t make that work out right?’
The former America’s Got Talent host admitted that he didn’t feel he was ‘built for marriage’ and that he didn’t fully have belief in the ‘traditional sense of monogamy.’
Nick later expressed, ‘Divorce is a sense of, “You failed” and when you have that level of failure with everyone seeing it, it was a lot on me for a long time. I didn’t really know how to process it. I had to go find myself. I had to go within.’
Since their official split, Cannon has expressed respect for his ex-wife, and during an interview with The Shade Room this year in March, he stated that Carey was the ‘love of his life.’
‘I was 12 years old with Mariah Carey pictures on my wall, and that becomes my wife. And the fact that she’s the coolest person I ever met,’ and later added, ‘That woman is not human. She’s a gift from God.’
Nick has notably since become father of an additional 10 children: Golden Sage, six, Powerful Queen, two, and nine-month-old Rise Messiah with Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion, two, and Beautiful Zeppelin, seven months, with Abby De La Rosa; nine-month-old Onyx with LaNisha Cole; Zen (who passed in 2021 from brain cancer) and Halo, six months with Alyssa Scott; and also son Legendary, one, with Bre Tiesi.
