Unveiling Woods’ Mystique: The Origin and Power Behind the ‘Tiger Slam’ Nickname

For many years, Tiger Woods has always been associated with the nickname “Tiger Slam”, but not everyone knows where this name comes from.

Specifically, fans started calling Tiger Woods with the nickname “Tiger Slam” when the American golfer won the championship at The Masters 2001.

In professional golf, winning four major titles including The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. The Open and The Open in the same calendar year will be known as the “Grand Slam”.

However, in the new era of golf, no player has achieved this achievement. Throughout history, only Bobby Jones could do the above in 1930, when he won all four major tournaments at that time: British Amateur, British Open, United States Open and United States Amateur.

Woods had a 15-stroke margin of victory at the U.S. Open. Open 2000

Returning to the story of Tiger Woods, he won the last 3 major tournaments of 2000, then went on to win the first major title of 2001. To date, Woods is the only golfer in this era Just won 4 major titles in a row. Therefore, the nickname “Tiger Slam” is used by fans to honor this achievement of the American golfer. And the “Tiger Slam” is only different from the “Grand Slam” in that it does not take place in the same calendar year.

Super Tiger started his journey with a historic victory at the U.S. Open. Open 2000 took place at Pebble Beach, where he won with a difference of up to 15 strokes, this is also the largest gap at a major tournament ever.

Next, Woods won his first Claret Jug at St. Andrews at The Open 2000, before he overcame Bob May in a playoff at Valhalla to take home another major title at the 2000 PGA Championship.

Finally, at The Masters 2001, where he completed four consecutive major titles with a two-stroke victory over David Duval.

Woods completed the “Tiger Slam” with The Masters 2001

Tiger Woods is also one of five golfers to have won all four major men’s tournaments in his career, known as the Career Grand Slam, and became the youngest person to do so when he won the throne at The Open 2000.

Currently, Tiger Woods is ranked 2nd on the list of golfers with the most major titles with 15 major titles, behind the legendary Jack Nicklaus with 18.

The last time Woods appeared at a major was The Masters in April this year, where he had to withdraw due to health problems. However, with the return to competition at the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship this month, fans can’t help but expect that Woods will continue to return to the top with major titles in 2024.
