Right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who played 78 minutes in England’s 1-0 win over Switzerland in Leicester on Tuesday, arrived back at Melwood driving a new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe, worth £66,000.

It has AMG-specific multi-spoke alloy wheels and all-round green-tinted windows that reduce solar glare. It can reach 0-60mph in less than four seconds and has a top speed of 155mph with with a V8 engine that pumps out 510 bhp.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has perhaps the flashiest selection of cars in the Premier League. Aubameyang is known for his lightning pace on the pitch and certainly backs that up away from the floodlights. His most expensive purchase is his £270,000 Lamborghini Aventador. It is also the fastest of his collection, reaching speeds of 220mph with 690 bhp.

Next on the former Borussia Dortmund forward’s list is the Audi R8 V10 Plus. Aubameyang isn’t exactly one to tone things down when it comes to paint jobs, opting for golden finish. It is as loud to look at as the massive V10 engine under the bonnet. At full speed it will be flying at 200mph with 602 bhp pushing it along. Want to buy one? £150,000 and it is yours.

The gold continues with Aubameyang’s premium 4×4. The Mansory Range Rover Sport SVR has a bespoke frontspoiler, doors and rear apron. It screams power and prestige. No wonder, then, that it is one of Aubameyang’s favourites. £150,000 buys you all of the modifications that the forward has. It has a generous top speed of 174mph with a bhp of 542.

Next on the list of the world stars who love to drive fast: Cristiano Ronaldo. Like Aubameyang, Ronaldo has an expensive taste for a Lamborghini. A black matte finish adds to an already sleek design which suits the Portuguese star’s style.  His pose in front of the car saw him get a hefty amount of criticism though it’s unlikely it bothered him too much. The car reportedly set him back £260,040 and packs a whopping 550 bhp. Flat out it will be going at 220 mph.

Ronaldo’s love of fast cars went up a notch in 2017 when he bought a Bugatti Veyron that was said to have cost him just shy of £1.5million. It can get from 0-60 in less than 2.5 seconds and boasts a top speed of 260 mph. A bhp of 1,200 sets it apart from your average sports car.

Paul Pogba may get plenty of coverage for his choice of hairstyle but when it comes to cars he’s a little more reserved. He does, of course, stick to his habit of personalisation. A couple of months after rejoining Manchester United in the summer of 2016, Pogba turned up at Carrington, the club’s training complex, in a red and black Chevrolet Camaro. It still isn’t known whether the car was a gift from Chevrolet, who also sponsor the club. Either way, the car costs between £30,000 and £50,000 depending on spec. A whole 425 bhp, too.

It is now five years since Mario Balotelli’s £250,000 Bentley Continental GT, complete with a camouflage paint job, made it onto the cover of Sports Illustrated. Balotelli was certainly known as being quite outlandish during his time in English football, particularly when he was at Manchester City. It has a top speed of 207 mph, 600 bhp and a powerful V12 engine. Balotelli ended up giving the car away once he left City in 2013.

Memphis Depay will say that this Mercedes Jeep was worth the effort. After all, it cost him £20,000 to import the car to England after moving to Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven. Depay paid £100,000 for the car but wasn’t entirely happy with how it first appeared and decided to spend a little extra to get his first name initial and his shirt number embroidered on the headrests. It is powered by a AMG V8 engine which has 585 bhp and produces a top speed of 135 mph.

Stephen Ireland certainly made the most of his time off the pitch at Manchester City where he was for five years before leaving to join Aston Villa. He made the rather bold move of getting the wheels, the grill and the seats of his Range Rover Sport all kitted out in pink trim. It set him back £63,895 in 2009. At least the City flop could drive around quick enough so that nobody would notice him with a top speed of 150 mph and 300 bhp.

If there is one thing this picture proves more than anything else it is that El Hadji Diouf was paid far too much money at Liverpool. His biggest purchase by a mile was a £420,000 chrome McClaren SLR that he drove around while playing for Blackburn Rovers. The car boasted a top speed of 220 mph and 640 bhp.

Djibril Cisse’s airbrushed Chrysler was rather unique in what he did with the bodywork. He decided, rather flamboyantly, to get an image of his daughter Ilona. At a price of £30,000, the Chrysler 300, would have left him with enough for specific modifications. With 292 bhp it can reach speeds as high as 155 mph.

Gareth Bale knows how to travel in style. The Real Madrid star has quite the collection of cars but his habit of getting a new super car every few months was curbed when he decided not to drive in them as frequently because they were ‘playing havoc with my hamstrings’. His £325,000 Lamborghini Huracan would have been tough to give up, though. The top speed of 200 mph and 600 bhp. No doubt it was tough to let go of but safety first and all that.

Sully Muntari did quite well after leaving Portsmouth. He got himself a big money move to Inter Milan before moving to bitter rivals AC Milan three years after. It was during his time at AC Milan that he bought a Mercedes Brabus G63 AMG 6X6. The six-wheeled Mercedes cost him a whopping £860,000. It would go from 0-60 in just seven seconds, had 700 bhp but was limited to 100 mph.

P.S. SOME AREN’T QUITE SO FLASH…

David James first got his hands on a Reliant Robin in 2008 when he was playing for Portsmouth. It was said to be part of a training ground prank before he decided to do it up. It isn’t known how much he spent on it but we can tell you that it had a top speed of 85 mph and 39 bhp.

Way before Wayne Rooney was chasing a ball about for DC United in Washington you may recall he started his career at Everton. It might perhaps be a little refreshing to some that Rooney opted for a cheap and cheerful Ford KA ‘SportKa’ when he passed his driving test. He did go for a personalised number plate, which we think is fair enough. You can now pick one up for less than £1,000. It is quite nippy, too. A top speed of 98mph and 94 bhp.
