Up until recently, it was rare to see worlds of Western music and K-pop collide, but that has since changed as the genre’s popularity continues to extend beyond South Korea. On Sunday, this crossover manifested itself in an exciting photo of two much-loved female artists from both genres: Blackpink’s Lisa and Rihanna. Shared by Lisa, the picture sees the Thai rapper of K-pop phenomenon Blackpink posing alongside Barbadian singer and beauty mogul Rihanna at the Gala des Pièces Jaunes in Paris.

For the occasion, Lisa was dressed in head-to-toe Dior, with her look featuring a cropped off-white jacket with matching trousers, and a white top underneath, paired with a red Lady D-Joy handbag. Next to her, Rihanna sported a black, draped outfit with her new blonde mane styled in waves. Since the picture was shared by Lisa with her 100 million followers, it has garnered about 5 million likes, with thousands of comments gushing over the two stars’s unexpected meeting.

The charity event in Paris marked Lisa’s first solo appearance since it was announced that the Blackpink members would be renewing their contracts with agency YG only for group activities and not individual commitments. However, it is not the first time Lisa has been associated with Western artists, as she reportedly attended Jay-Z’s star-studded birthday party last year. The 26-year-old has also been an ambassador for Bulgari and Celine since 2020. Other members of Blackpink have also set out on solo ventures, with Jennie recently launching her own record label Odd Atelier following her appearance in the HBO series The Idol, and Jisoo reportedly joining her brother’s agency.
