Ice Cube takes Oscars snub in stride and reveals he’s happy with film’s success

There were high Oscar expectations for Straight Outta Compton, the film that portrayed the rise of legendary rap group N.W.A.

But apparently it was not to be, as it was revealed on Thursday that the movie only got one nomination, for best original screenplay.

Rapper Ice Cube, 46, who acted as a producer on the biopic, was quite circumspect when he was interviewed on The Wendy Williams Show after the nominations had been announced.

Oh well: Rapper Ice Cube, 46, who acted as a producer on the biopic, was quite circumspect when he was interviewed after the nominations had been announced

‘I’m not pissed. I’m not surprised. It’s the Oscars, they do what they do.’

The former N.W.A. founding member’s rational reaction came in response to Wendy expressing her disbelief at what is being considered a significant snub.

The television host was completely honest in her assessment, telling Cube that she had been expecting more when it came to recognizing the film’s achievements.

She also added that she saw the film twice, once with friends and once with her family, as she felt it was important that her son ‘learn the history’ of the pioneering musical act.

Again, while she left the door open for Ice Cube to share any possible dismay, the rap icon remained very humble, noting the film’s success was more than enough in terms of praise.

‘The people loved the movie, the people supported the movie, it was No. 1 at the box office, over $200 million worldwide. I can’t be mad, you know.’

Already satisfied: Again, while she left the door open for Ice Cube to share any possible dismay, the rap icon remained very humble, noting the film’s success was more than enough in terms of praise

Later, TMZ caught Ice Cube as he was about to get into a waiting vehicle.

He was again asked if he was disappointed in the lack of nominations, and while one of his entourage tried to deflect the question, the music maven stuck to his message.

The Ride Along 2 star simply cracked a smile and replied, ‘we ain’t worried about it.’
