Sergio Ramos excited for Bernabeu return as Real Madrid face Sevilla: “I’m going to feel at home”

As Real Madrid get set to take on Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday night, they will welcome a former captain and club legend, Sergio Ramos, to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ramos enjoyed an illustrious career at Real Madrid, making 671 appearances, during which he even scored 101 goals, and won a host of trophies, including four UEFA Champions League titles.

The 37-year-old left the Merengues as a free agent in 2021, joining PSG, where he spent two years before returning to Spain last summer by joining Sevilla.

Ramos looking forward to Bernabeu return

Now, Ramos is all set to take the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday and the defender is looking forward to stepping out on his old stomping grounds.

“I’m going to feel at home because I’ve spent so many years there, with the most important moments of my career and I have wonderful memories of the fans and my teammates. It will be a unique and emotional moment,” he said to DAZN (h/t AS).

The Spanish legend then acknowledged that his former club go into the game as favourites as they are in a good moment and backed them to win all possible titles this season.

“Real Madrid are favourites to win everything every year. They’re going through a good moment, they’re at the top and they have players of extraordinary quality,” said Ramos.

“We know very well the ground we are going to walk on and we will try to play a good game there.”

Ramos then made it clear that he would not be celebrating if he managed to score a goal against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu out of respect for his former club and the fans.

“I have a lot of respect for the fans and for the whole of Real Madrid and if I score, I won’t celebrate, but if I’m lucky enough to do so and that goal helps us to win, I’ll be delighted because those three points will be very useful for us,” he remarked.

Ramos also opened up on the previous meeting between the two sides, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, saying:

“We played Madrid toe-to-toe. We had chances to win. Kepa saved a very good header that would have given us the victory. Sevilla, when we’re compact, we’re all on the same page and we put in a lot of intensity, we show that we’re a guerrilla team.”

Real Madrid planning a special tribute

As Ramos gets set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid are understood to be planning a special tribute for their former captain.

It will nothing less than what Ramos deserves considering that he gave his best 16 years to the club and helped the team achieve greatness.
