Beyoncé’s memorable Oscar appearances.

From show-stealing performances to hitting the red carpet and afterparties with JAY-Z, here’s every time the music icon has attended the Academy Awards

Grammy Award-winning singer Beyoncé made her Oscars red carpet debut in 2005 alongside then-boyfriend JAY-Z — and later delivered three memorable performances onstage at the Academy Awards.

Since then, the superstar has joined the prestigious festivities a few times over the years, always making a mark with her presence. From showcasing her glamorous looks to representing Best Original Song nominations in musical medleys and a pre-taped performance, here are all the times Beyoncé has graced Hollywood’s biggest night with her presence.

2005: Beyoncé makes her Oscars debut

The year was 2005. Destiny’s Child had just announced their plans to split after their world tour, and Beyoncé already had one solo album under her belt — 2003’s Dangerously in Love — and the films Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) and The Fighting Temptations (2003).

The singer made her Oscars debut on the red carpet, looking elegant in a black velvet Atelier Versace gown and dazzling diamond earrings.

2005: Beyoncé is joined by JAY-Z on the red carpet

Beyoncé’s date to the Oscars was none other than JAY-Z, whom she’d been romantically linked since 2001. The pair later tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their former Manhattan penthouse in 2008. Beyond their musical collaborations, the pair kept their relationship out of the public eye at first until their red carpet debut at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards.

2005: Beyoncé performs for the first time at the Oscars

The defining feature of the 2005 Oscars was that they were Beyoncé themed. Perhaps not officially, but certainly in spirit. Queen Bey was tapped to perform three of the Best Original Song nominees — including “Vois Sur Ton Chemin” (English translation: “Look to Your Path”) from the 2004 musical Les Choristes — which she sang in French while accompanied by a group of choir boys.

On the Live From E! red carpet pre-show, Beyoncé said the opportunity to perform three numbers was “surreal.”

“I can’t believe I’m here … I just keep saying that because it’s so surreal to me,” she told host Star Jones. “I know it’s never been done … to perform three times. And for it to be me, I’m not worthy. I can’t wait to perform. I’m just excited to be here.”2005: Beyoncé performs for the second time at the Oscars

The then-23-year-old pop star, decked out in diamonds, also belted out a rendition of “Learn to Be Lonely” from 2004’s Phantom of the Opera, originally sung by Minnie Driver. Beyoncé was accompanied on the piano by the musical’s composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and she was aided down the staircase by a masked phantom, which fans might be surprised to learn was a near-miss.

“I’m trying to remember the words, and my ear monitor’s turned off ― and my shoe is off of my foot, actually, inside of the dress,” Beyoncé said during a 2005 interview with Oprah Winfrey. “So, I’m on one toe, and I’m in one heel, walking down the stairs, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, shoe, please stay in my dress!'”2005: Beyoncé performs a duet with Josh Groban at the Oscars

For her third and final performance of the night, Beyoncé took the stage alongside Josh Groban — whose song “Believe” from 2004’s The Polar Express was nominated — wearing a sparkly strapless gown.

All three of the numbers Beyoncé performed lost the Best Original Song award, with “Al Otro Lado Del Río” from 2004’s The Motorcycle Diaries taking home the coveted prize.2005: Beyoncé attends the ‘Vanity Fair’ Oscars afterparty

After stealing the spotlight with her trio of performances, Beyoncé hit the illustrious Vanity Fair afterparty in a baby blue Roberto Cavalli gown.2005: Beyoncé has a wardrobe malfunction at an Oscars afterparty

A wardrobe malfunction later threatened to ruin the night, Beyoncé revealed to Winfrey.

“I was at a party, and I sat down, and the boning curved because I was sitting down,” she said during her 2005 interview. “On my way out, all the paparazzi were still outside, and I said, ‘Oh my god, they’re going to say that I’m pregnant.'” (Her beau’s hand placement likely didn’t help matters!).

However, little ones were still years down the line for music’s power couple: they welcomed daughter Blue Ivy in 2012, while twins Rumi and Sir were born in 2017.2007: Beyoncé attends Giorgio Armani’s Oscars pre-party

Ahead of the 2007 Academy Awards, Beyoncé got her sparkle on at Giorgio Armani’s pre-party at Green Acres Estates in Beverly Hills, posing with the designer for a few cute snaps.2007: Beyoncé graces the red carpet at the Oscars

Two years after her iconic Oscars debut, the singer returned to the red carpet in 2007, looking like a Greek goddess in a mint green Armani Prive one-shouldered gown.2007: Beyoncé performs with her ‘Dreamgirls’ costars at the Oscars

Beyoncé took the stage that night alongside her Dreamgirls costars, Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose, to belt out a medley of the 2006 film’s nominated songs, including “Listen” and “Dreamgirls.”2007: Beyoncé attends the ‘Vanity Fair’ Oscars afterparty

After her powerhouse Dreamgirls medley performance, Beyoncé hit the Vanity Fair afterparty for the second time.2009: Beyoncé hits the Oscars red carpet

For the 81st annual Academy Awards, the “Single Ladies” singer strutted her stuff on the carpet in a fitted black-and-gold brocade gown designed by her mother, Tina Knowles, for House of Dereon.2009: Beyoncé performs a medley of movie musicals at the Oscars

Who could forget Beyoncé joining 2009’s host Hugh Jackman (as well as Zac Efron and Amanda Seyfried) for a medley that paid tribute to musicals, including numbers from High School MusicalMamma Mia! and Hairspray.2015: Beyoncé attends the ‘Vanity Fair’ Oscars afterparty with Solange

The record-breaking singer took a few years off before returning to the Vanity Fair afterparty. In 2015, she partied on the dance floor with younger sister Solange, wearing a white Stella McCartney gown and sporting a blunt bob.2015: Beyoncé and JAY-Z enjoy an Oscars afterparty

A decade after their Oscars debut, the Carters showed they’re still “Crazy in Love” at the 2015 afterparty.2022: Beyoncé opens the Oscars with pre-taped performance

Beyoncé opened the 2022 Oscars with a pre-taped performance from Serena and Venus Williams’ childhood tennis court in Compton. She was surrounded by green-clad performers in a musical number full of cool Easter eggs.

Queen Bey was nominated for the first time for Best Original Song for 2021’s King Richard, the Will Smith-led sports biopic based on the Williams sisters’ father, Richard.2022: Beyoncé attends the Oscars following her taped performance

After opening the Oscars with her pre-taped performance of “Be Alive,” Beyoncé attended the ceremony wearing a strapless Valentino Haute Couture yellow gown and matching gloves, diamond drop earrings and a bejeweled tennis ball purse.

Although the Best Original Song award ultimately went to Billie Eilish (along with her brother and producer Finneas O’Connell) for the song “No Time to Die” from the eponymous James Bond film, Beyoncé was spotted applauding Eilish and O’Connell with a smile from her seat in the audience.
