In a heartwarming tale of determination and resilience, Precious Chioma Ugwoke, an exceptional Nigerian mom, has become an inspiration to many by embarking on an extraordinary journey back to high school after giving birth to her last child. Her remarkable story reflects the indomitable spirit of a woman on a quest to fulfill her dreams, despite societal expectations and challenges.

In 2018, Precious Chioma Ugwoke, hailing from Enugu, Nigeria, made the courageous decision to re-enroll in high school. Undeterred by the passage of time and societal norms, she joined a junior class at St Andrew’s Secondary School, Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka LGA. The journey was not an easy one, but with unwavering determination, she progressed through the stages and successfully concluded her high school education, culminating in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Senior Certificate Examination.

Ugwuoke Oloto Odobo, Precious’s supportive husband, took to Facebook to celebrate his wife’s achievements and share their inspiring story. He highlighted that Precious resumed her academic pursuit in Junior Secondary School 3 (JS3) after the birth of their last child. Encouraged by the overwhelming support from the public, she persevered, burning the midnight oil until June 22, 2022, when she wrote her last paper – Government – in the WAEC Senior Certificate Examination.

As Precious Chioma Ugwoke awaits the results that will pave the way for her entrance into the university to study law, her journey becomes a beacon of hope and motivation. In a society that often imposes age limits and expectations, she challenges norms and proves that it is never too late to pursue education and fulfill one’s aspirations. Precious Chioma Ugwoke’s story resonates as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the pursuit of lifelong learning.

In the heart of Masaka, Uganda, a remarkable young woman, Sharon Mbabazi, has defied the odds and carved her path to success through hard work, resilience, and an unyielding pursuit of education. At the age of 22, Sharon has not only overcome significant challenges but has also achieved an inspiring milestone, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Muteesa I Royal University.

Sharon‘s journey is a testament to her unwavering spirit, facing adversity head-on after losing her mother at the tender age of 5. In the face of financial struggles, she found a unique solution – becoming a brickmaker and bricklayer to sustain herself and fund her education.

Reflecting on the early days, Sharon shared, “My village mates mocked me for being home because of school fees default, they used to call us poor because of our nearly falling house made out of soil.” Undeterred by the challenges, she channeled the negativity into motivation, vowing to change her life and that of her family.

Her indomitable spirit led her to work tirelessly, making bricks even when customers failed to pay, grounded by her determination never to give up. Her journey unfolded at Muteesa I Royal University, where she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, a testament to her dedication and thirst for knowledge.

A fellow classmate, Aaron Mbwali, shared Sharon’s story on social media, praising her hard work and describing her as someone always eager to explore new horizons. Despite facing judgment for her involvement in bricklaying, Sharon’s commitment to her education remained steadfast.

Sharon’s story goes beyond academic achievements. Her unconventional source of income has turned her into a local icon, with her workplace becoming a landmark in the area. She has become an inspirational figure at her university, with students seeking to hear her story and drawing inspiration from her resilience.

Born to Steven Ssemasaka and Margaret Nagasha in Masoli-Gayaza, Wakiso district, Sharon’s early life was marked by rejection and poverty. The loss of her mother compounded the challenges, but it also fueled her determination to create a better life for herself. Sharon started laying bricks in Primary Six, earning money to buy essential items like new pairs of knickers.
