Jason Momoa sparks anger after taking photos of himself inside the Sistine Chapel

Strict rules in place ban photographs or filming – meaning that fans should not be allowed to grab a selfie with Michelangelo’s most famous work, The Last Judgement fresco

Fans have been left furious after Jason Momoa posted a selection of pictures from his visit inside the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel.

If you visit the iconic landmark, any kind of photography or filming is banned, so you’ll never be able to grab a selfie with Michelangelo’s most famous work, The Last Judgement fresco.

Some people think this rule is in place to protect the historic mural, but it’s actually not. The strict ban was actually enforced because a Japanese company own copyright on the interior.

It was a deal that was necessary when the the company paid for restoration work back in the 1980s. Even though the copyright claim expired in 2019, pictures remain banned, which is why some fans were left annoyed to see images of the Game of Thrones star inside the chapel.

Those criticising the actor questioned how he was able to share photos while the general public were not allowed.

One social media user commented: “We can’t take pics but [of course] celebrities can. Nothing against Jason (I adore him) but it’s not fair.”

Another said: “So they let the rich and famous film in there but us peasants can’t”, while one more added: “So wait… pics in here are prohibited yet somehow, although I love you [Momoa], you can have the room cleared out just for you and take group pics.

Even though the pictures haven’t been deleted from Momoa’s social media, he has since said sorry for his actions in another post.

Momoa said: “Just want to send my absolute admiration for the Italians and this beautiful country. [I also] want to send apologies for any disrespect. I love your culture and history.”
