Animal Actors International trainer Kim Krafksy carefully selected Andy for the role, emphasizing the beagle’s cuteness, sociability, and beauty. The on-set dynamics involved Krafksy providing cues to Andy and monitoring his behavior, especially during emotionally charged scenes.

Despite Andy’s character meeting an early demise, the entire cast and crew, including Reeves, developed a fondness for the adorable pup. Andy, now 1-year-old, enjoys a relaxed life on the Animal Actors International farm in New Jersey, occasionally embracing his newfound red-carpet lifestyle during film promotions.
