‘Quite a shock’ Conor McGregor actually punched Jake Gyllenhaal in the face

Jake Gyllenhaal has shared how the fight scenes in his new high octane action film Road House didn’t all go to plan.

His stunts included combat with professional boxer Conor McGregor, and not every blow was fake.

‘Oftentimes people want to know if he hit me and he did by mistake a couple times,’ the American actor tells the Daily Telegraph.

‘But I did to him too. I mean, it really had no effect on him’ he added.

Jake went on to explain that being punched in the face by a professional fighter was quite memorable.

‘It was quite a shock and definitely something in my career that I will always hold with me, that I was actually hit in the face by Mr McGregor. He was really apologetic though’ he said.

The actor, 43, plays Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer for a dingy bar in the Florida Keys, starring alongside UFC fighter McGregor, 35.

Speaking to a giddy Sian Welby, Jake gave an insight into how he prepared and kept his ripped physique while filming the action Prime Video film.

The American star explained how he wouldn’t allow himself to have ‘one chip’ because it would destroy the hard work he had put.

He said: ‘If you really look. I don’t eat the tacos. You see me take the plate and I say thank you and then the scene cuts you never actually see me take a mouthful.

‘I was on a strict regimen, one chip would have done the whole thing.’

Jake also admitted he was ‘totally terrified’ while filming fight scenes with Conor because ‘he really could kick my a**’.

Conor, who’s taken on his first ever movie role playing Knox, is seen in one clip forcefully headbutting Jake’s character Elwood Dalton.

Jake explained how he had to ‘teach professional fighters’ how to fake fight so it was believer to viewers.

He continued: ‘I was like this is really cool but I was also just totally terrified. I was teaching professional fighters, who could really kick my a**, how to kick my a** so that people really buy it.

‘Their ability to judge distance is unlike anyone else to be working with someone who can do that, there’s a safety to that too.’

The reboot of the 1989 cult classic that originally starred Patrick Swayze, was released on Amazon Prime on March 21.
