Billie Eilish slams Taylor Swift fans after ‘wasteful’ packaging remarks: ‘Sheesh’

Billie Eilish hit back at Taylor Swift fans for “putting words into my mouth” after she seemingly shaded Swift for not being environmentally conscious.

“Okay so it would be so awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what I said in that billboard article,” the 22-year-old singer wrote in an Instagram story.

“I wasn’t singling anyone out, these are industry-wide systemic issues,” Eilish added, saying that she was also guilty of releasing multiple vinyl versions of her records in different packaging.

“When it comes to variants, so many artists release them, including me, which I clearly state in the article,” she added. “The climate crisis is now and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better sheesh.”

In the Billboard article, the “What Was I Made For?” singer seemingly denounced artists who participated in the growing practice of releasing multiple “vinyl variants.”

“We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it’s very important to some artists to make all sorts of different vinyl and packaging,” she said. “[It] ups the sales and ups the numbers and gets them more money and gets them more.”

A vinyl variant is a different pressing of the same album with small changes, whether it’s color, additional tracks or even cover art.

The presence of these alterations also incentivizes die-hard fans to purchase all possible variants.

“I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is,” the two-time Oscar winner stated. “It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right.”

“I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable — and then it’s some of the biggest artists in the world making f — king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more.”

Eilish admitted that she was also guilty of the trend.

“It’s so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me that we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money,” Eilish went on. “And it’s all your favorite artists doing that s – – t.”

“I don’t understand why she’s attacking Taylor,” one fan of the “Cruel Summer” singer said on X (formerly Twitter). “I dare you to prove a point and not release ANY physical copies of your album.”

“We swifties should be offended by this! I’m fine with CO2 Carbon Emissions #1 Charts on Taylor Swift. But I draw the line when it comes to vinyl variants that makes our sales strong,” a third fan declared. “WE DO NOT F – – KING TOLERATE THIS BEHAVIOR BILLIE EILISH!”
