Rocks D. Xebec has a huge role to play in One Piece’s final saga.
Rocks D. Xebec is one of the most intriguing characters in the entirety of One Piece that Oda has introduced. This particular character made his introduction in the Wano Country arc, particularly in the interlude between Act 2 and Act 3. There, this character was mentioned by none other than Sengoku for the very first time.
Ever since then, Rocks has been quite a mystery, with Oda revealing bits about him every now and then. Most recently, Rocks had some information revealed about him in the Final Saga, particularly in the Egghead Island arc. While Rocks might not be alive at this point in time, there is evidence that Oda isn’t done with this character just yet.
Who Is Rocks D. Xebec?
The Legendary Pirate From Decades Ago
Rocks D. Xebec is a powerful pirate that existed in the world of One Piece over 40 years ago. Around this time, he was the primary force on the seas who ruled like an Emperor and controlled the same sea that is currently being controlled by the Four Emperors together. The World government considered him a direct threat to them. This is largely down to the fact that Rocks acted more like a terrorist than a pirate. His goal was to become the ruler of the entire world, and that is an ambition way greater than even Pirate King. Rocks had set his eyes on the entire world, and that is precisely why he was as dangerous as he was.
In addition to their captain, Rocks, they also featured a young Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido!!
Under him, Rocks had established a very mighty pirate crew. The Rocks Pirates were considered to be a force to be reckoned with, and even the Navy could not have dealt with them by themselves. Under Rocks were some of the most legendary pirates, such as Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido, Shiki, Captain John, Silver Axe, Gloriosa, and many others. All these powerful individuals would then go on to make a great name for themselves. For instance, three of the Four Emperors at the beginning of the story came through the Rocks Pirates. Meanwhile, there were many other Pirates who created a legendary status for themselves in the One Piece World, such as Shiki, who was seen as a rival to the likes of Whitebeard and Roger.
38 years ago, on the island of God Valley, Rocks finally met his end. On this particular day, the Rocks Pirates faced off against the collaboration of the Marines and the Roger Pirates. This collaboration was incredible, and, eventually, it saw the Rocks Pirates being crushed, and of course, the Captain, Rocks D. Xebec being defeated as well. He was taken down by the collaboration of Roger and Garp, however, while Sengoku says he’s dead, Oda might still have an important role reserved for this character later down the line in One Piece.
Rocks’s Role In The Final Saga
Oda Isn’t Done With Rocks D. Xebec Just Yet
In the Final Saga, Rocks still has an important role to play. For one, fans recently got to see the God Valley Incident in the Egghead Island Arc, thanks to Bartholomew Kuma. It was through his flashback, which Oda tied to the Rocks Pirates, that God Valley was properly shown to the fans. Of course, the clash itself on God Valley was not showcased by Oda, and this was likely done on purpose. This is simply down to the fact that Oda might want to reveal this later down the line, and, at the moment, fans will just have to be content with what they have been given. Regardless, Rocks is surely going to be involved in the story later down the line. And, this involvement is likely to come through a flashback.
The Rocks Pirates, the strongest crew in the world, were wiped out at an island called God Valley…according to the news reports!!
Rocks and his story is not done just yet. There are too many things about this character that Oda is yet to reveal, and fans will most likely get to see them in the latter half of the Final Saga. For instance, Rocks’s ambition, his origins, and even his conclusion as a character remain unknown. His ambition of becoming the king of the entire world is something that is the biggest in the entire series, and yet, fans have not seen how it came about, and how exactly it ended.
An important aspect of Rocks’s character that absolutely has to be explored later down the line is attached to none other than Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard. Blackbeard and Rocks draw quite a few connections.
For one, Blackbeard is the ruler of Hachinosu, which was the same island that was ruled by Rocks himself long ago. Furthermore, Blackbeard’s ship is called the Saber of Xebec, which is a direct reference to the legendary pirate himself. If that wasn’t enough, Blackbeard himself wants to be the King of the entire world, which is a dream that he shares with Rocks. There are too many connections between these two individuals, and, it can be said that Blackbeard takes direct inspiration from Rocks in many ways. It can be established already that Rocks will come into play later down the line when the character of Blackbeard is explored more.
Primarily, Blackbeard will most likely be used to give exposition to Rocks, and at the same time, Rocks will then serve as a plot device to showcase what Blackbeard is truly like. In many ways, it can be said that Blackbeard is the second coming of Rocks, and these two characters will prove to be a menace in the Final Saga, causing great problems for Luffy.
Will Rocks Reappear In One Piece?
Rocks’s Days In The Present Timeline Might Be Over
At the moment, it is highly unlikely for Rocks to return in the Final Saga of One Piece. For one, Sengoku proclaimed Rocks to be dead. Of course, it could just be that Sengoku believes Rocks to be dead and isn’t aware of his fate. However, it is highly likely that this character is going to return. That said, on the off chance that Rocks does return, it would certainly be magnificent for the fans to see him in a clash where he showcases his tremendous powers once again. Rocks had the dream to conquer the entire world, and if this dream is still alive, then, perhaps, he will return to cause all sorts of problems for Luffy and the others. There are many theories out there pertaining to the character of Rocks, and some even go as far as to say that Rocks is alive and he managed to switch bodies with Imu. Of course, at the end of the day, this is just an idea, however, it is still an interesting one.
All in all, what fans need to keep in mind primarily is what Oda has stated in his story, canonically. Everything points towards Rocks already being dead, and as a result, him really appearing in the series does not look all that likely. Rocks will surely get his time, however, it will only be through flashbacks and fans will simply have to be content with that.
