Conor McGregor asks UFC for custom shorts after laughing at Max Holloway’s UFC 300 fight kit

Conor McGregor wants to wear custom US Dollar bill shorts for his UFC comeback.

The Irishman came up with the idea after taking aim at the floral shorts Max Holloway will be wearing for his BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.

Pictures of Holloway’s shorts, which feature a blue and red Hawaiian floral design, were shared online.

McGregor reacted to the striking look by commenting with a laughing emoji under a post that showed off his former foe’s fight kit for Saturday night.

Holloway clearly took exception to McGregor’s comment as he brought it up at Wednesday’s UFC 300 media day.

“First things first, you’ve got to ask Conor what he’s laughing about on your comment brother, go ask him what he’s laughing about,” Holloway said with respect to the Instagram comment.

“Hopefully he can get Lucky Charm shorts or something, good for him.”

Responding to Holloway’s comments in a now-deleted post on X, McGregor shared a mock photo of a pair of shorts covered in dollar bills, with the caption: “US dollar bill shorts for me.”

Holloway is not the only fighter at UFC 300 rocking a custom fight kit.

The UFC’s official clothing sponsor, Venum, has also made a pair of shorts with indigenous Brazilian print for Alex Pereira, who headlines UFC 300 in his first light-heavyweight title defence against Jamahal Hill.

Meanwhile, Holloway’s opponent Gaethje and UFC strawweight queen Weili Zhang have also been kitted out with new gear.

Gaethje will wear black shorts with the stars and stripes of the American flag in white and grey detailing while Zhang pays homage to her home country of China with a red fight kit covered in dragons and other symbols of Chinese mythology.

As is customary, her kit also has a gold trim befitting of a champion.

Bryce Mitchell became the first fighter to wear unique shorts since the inception of the UFC’s infamous Reebok deal when he donned a camouflage pattern for his fight with Andre Fili at UFC Fight Night 181 in 2020.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley followed suit with his custom-made pink shorts at UFC 299 last month.
