‘It’s not a joke’… Pochettino warns Chelsea players what he’ll do if they ever fight over a penalty again

There was only one real negative for Chelsea to take away from their 6-0 win against Everton last night.

Chelsea‘s victory over Sean Dyche’s men was probably their best performance of the season.

It was a game that saw Cole Palmer score four goals, with his fourth being another penalty.

However, before the 21-year-old took it, both Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson tried to step up to take it.

At one point, Palmer could even be seen pushing Jackson away. It is something that left Mauricio Pochettino far from impressed.

Mauricio Pochettino’s warning to Chelsea players after penalty farce

In the end, as he has done all season, Palmer converted his penalty kick.

Pochettino has since made it clear that the England international is the team’s designated spot-kick taker.

He has also warned Madueke, Jackson and the rest of the side what will happen if they get into an argument over who is taking the penalty ever again.

As relayed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Pochettino said: “Next time they’re all out. It’s not a joke.

“It’s impossible after a performance like this to have this behaviour. We have to learn a lot if we want to be a great team.”

Who was in the wrong?

With Palmer already on three goals, you can understand why Jackson and Madueke thought there could be an opportunity for them to take it.

However, if the England international wanted it, which he clearly did, then that should have been it since he is the assigned penalty taker.

It has marred what was an incredible victory overall a bit.

That being said, the most important thing last night was for Chelsea to get the win, which they did. It has left Pochettino’s side in a good position.

While Chelsea remain in ninth, they are now only three points behind sixth with a game in hand.
