**Breaking News: Women Hit Hard by New Tariffs on Everyday Essentials**

In a shocking revelation that could send shockwaves through households nationwide, new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are set to escalate the already inflated costs of essential products primarily used by women. Items like tampons, bras, makeup, and personal care products, which are already burdened by the notorious “pink tax,” will see further price hikes, exacerbating the financial strain on women everywhere.

As the economy grapples with these sweeping tariff changes, experts warn that women will bear the brunt of this policy shift. Prachi Agarwal, a research fellow at ODI Global, explains that while tariffs have historically targeted sectors like steel and automobiles, the impact on women’s products has been largely overlooked. With tariffs on women’s clothing averaging 3% higher than men’s in the U.S. and even more staggering disparities in countries like India and South Africa, the financial implications are dire.

The crisis deepens as women, who already earn significantly less than men—averaging 77 cents to every dollar—are now forced to pay more for basic necessities. The result? A looming erosion of savings and financial security for women, particularly in single-parent households where they shoulder the burden of purchasing for children.

The situation is further compounded in the Global South, where rising tariffs threaten to decimate job opportunities for women in manufacturing sectors. As costs rise, manufacturers may cut jobs or wages, leaving women even more vulnerable. Agarwal emphasizes the urgent need for policy change to address these inequities, calling for governments to eliminate gender-biased tariffs.

As this critical issue unfolds, the call to action is clear: women must unite and demand change. The consequences of inaction are severe—higher prices, fewer job opportunities, and a widening financial gap. The time for awareness and action is now.
