Jimmy Kimmel is speaking out following the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote on Instagram. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

Kirk was fatally shot Wednesday during a rally he was hosting at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit political advocacy group that backed Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential election.
Video of the shooting showed Kirk speaking at a large outdoor event on university grounds. Shortly before the shooting, Kirk was asked by attendee, “Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” Kirk responded “Too many.” A shot then rang out and Kirk lurched backward as blood poured from his neck.
Trump announced Kirk’s death on Truth Social, writing “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
FBI director Kash Patel announced late this afternoon that a suspect was in custody, but later said that the “person of interest” had been released.
Kimmel has not been shy about his criticism of Trump, frequently mocking him on his late-night talk show, and Trump has shot back. Over the summer, Trump frequently posted on his Truth Social that Jimmy Kimmel Live will be the next late-night show canceled after CBS revealed Kimmel’s Late Show would be ending next year and the franchise was being canceled.
Kimmel also told Sarah Silverman on her podcast that he was obtaining Italian citizenship amid Trump’s presidency.
“I did get Italian citizenship,” Kimmel said. “What’s going on [with Trump] is as bad as you thought it was gonna be. It’s so much worse; it’s just unbelievable. I feel like it’s probably even worse than he would like it to be.”
