One Piece: Are Jewelry Bonney’s Powers The Key To Luffy’s Strongest Form?

Jewelry Bonney’s powerful and versatile Devil Fruit ability may hold the key to Luffy’s next power-up.

One Piece character Jewelry Bonney is featured at the center of recent developments and may hold the key to the power-up Luffy needs to fight Saturn. Her toshi toshi no mi fruit has incredibly strong attacks and her ability to access alternate timeline versions of characters through her transformations may boost the Straw Hat’s capabilities just enough to allow them to escape Egghead Island.

Jewelry Bonney was last seen in One Piece chapter 1095, injured, and held captive by Saturn after her unsuccessful rage-fueled attack on him. Luffy himself is currently indisposed after his fight with Kizaru, and there currently aren’t any combat ready candidates capable of taking on Saturn’s overwhelming power. The situation is dire, and many fans are wondering how the Straw Hats will get out of this pinch.

Is Jewelry Bonney Strong Enough To Fight Saturn?

Bonnie’s toshi toshi no mi fruit abilities are strong, but it is unlikely they would work on Saturn. The presence of giant black lightning sparks when he summons the ritual circle in One Piece chapter 1094 indicates that he is most likely a strong Haki user, though the series has sometimes used black lightning to indicate other effects too. Regardless, of whether this is Haki or another power source, it is safe to assume that the Gorosei and Imu are able to use advanced forms of Haki skillfully due to their positions at the top of the World Government and, as Bonney is just a child, it wouldn’t make sense for her to be able to sustain combat with such an experienced figure.

Jewelry Bonney’s Transformations

In One Piece chapter 1064, Jewelry Bonney uses her powers to disguise the Straw Hats by manipulating their ages. Jinbe’s transformation into his young self foreshadows the introduction of Seraphim Jinbe, whereas Luffy is transformed into an elderly man that closely resembles the bad timeline Luffy Oda drew for an SBS.

When this transformation took place, Oda made the peculiar choice of reintroducing Luffy to the story. This had only happened three times in post-time skip One Piece and all three of these instances marked narrative milestones that signaled a pivotal evolution of Luffy’s character, such as when he achieved the status of emperor of the sea. The intentionality behind the previous uses of reintroduction makes it reasonable to assume that with this transformation, Bonney transcended the boundaries of the canon One Piece world and in fact summoned an alternate timeline Luffy variant from another universe. If this is true, this ability could turn out to be a wild card capable of evolving Luffy into even more powerful versions than his official canon timeline self.

The Strongest Timeline Luffy

When considering candidates for transformation from the Luffy multiverse, one specific timeline Luffy variant comes to mind. This is the good timeline Luffy, who has achieved all his dreams and matured into the strongest version of himself possible. Also revealed in an SBS, this Luffy is the freest man alive as he roams the seas as the Pirate King, closely resembling his grandfather Monkey D. Garp. He has continued his training for another thirty years past canon events, and as he is likely in possession of Haki as strong as that of legends such as Raleigh, Shanks, and Gol D. Roger, he would probably be more than capable of stalling Saturn long enough to guarantee the safety of Stella and the Straw Hats.

This is just a theory, but the idea of summoning alternate timeline Luffys certainly respects the whimsical nature of the One Piece world. Though there are other ways the Egghead scenario could unfold, the community has its eyes on Jewelry Bonney, and she is undoubtedly going to continue to be one an extremely relevant character in the current arc.
