Altay Bayindir impressing Manchester United coaches, 25-year-old in training as he waits for debut

Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has impressed staff around Carrington ahead of a big opportunity in January.

United’s goalkeeping options were completely revamped over the summer with Andre Onana’s arrival proving to be the major move.

David De Gea, Dean Henderson, Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar all moved on, representing a massive change to United’s goalkeeping ranks.

United also pounced to sign Altay Bayindir on transfer deadline day, completing a bargain £4.3million move to sign the Turkish stopper from Fenerbahce.

We have yet to see Bayindir in action for United; not even in Carabao Cup games did Erik ten Hag call on Bayindir in place of Onana.

This is something of a concern for some United fans given the impending departure of Onana.

The Cameroon stopper is poised to head away to the Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from January 13th to February 11th.

United could be without Onana for several weeks and Bayindir will be needed to come in as his replacement.

The 25-year-old will have to step up quickly but it sounds like United staff have been encouraged with his development.

ESPN report that Bayindir is impressing in training at Carrington and staff are pleased with what they have seen so far.

That means United are seemingly comfortable with Bayindir and still have confidence in him to fill in for Onana.

Bayindir has now left Manchester as he has been called up by Turkey for their games against Germany and Wales in this international break.

The 6ft 6in stopper has played just once in any competition since joining United, and that was featuring for 45 minutes in Turkey’s 4-2 defeat to Japan in September.

Bayindir was called up for Turkey’s October internationals but didn’t play, and is now in the squad again to challenge Mert Gunok, Ugurcan Cakir and Ertac Ozbir.

New Turkey boss Vincenzo Montella may want to get a close look at Bayindir in a game situation – especially with a lack of minutes for United.

Erik ten Hag may even hope to see Bayindir feature over the next week, having so far resisted the temptation to throw him into the United side.
