The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was discontinued because these shows became increasingly boring and the angels with standard physiques no longer had a strong attraction to the public.

According to The New York Times , the image of the Victoria’s Secret Angels consisting of models with Barbie doll-like bodies will no longer exist. Angel wings elaborately decorated with creative stones and feathers or bras filled with diamonds and gems, costing millions of dollars, are also a thing of the past.

Supermodel bodies are haunting

Victoria’s Secret’s choice still causes controversy on social networks because some people think they should stay loyal to their 𝑠e𝑥y image of the past. However, many people also support the creativity and changes appropriate to modern society of this famous brand.

In 2017, a law was passed in France to ban models with bodies that are too thin. Accordingly, models will need a doctor’s certificate proving that they are in good health and have a body mass index (BMI) of over 18 (for example, a model 1m75 tall must weigh at least 50 kg). Only then will they be allowed to perform. However, in 2019, the world’s leading fashion company Yves Saint Laurent was fiercely condemned when it disregarded the above law and continued to hire skinny models for its show. The irony is that YSL has pledged to limit super-skinny models since 2017.

There was a time when supermodels had to be super skinny

The above results cannot completely eliminate the mindset that models must be tall, have long legs, and be as skinny as possible. However, it also partly removes the obsession that weighs heavily on the psychology of the model world’s thin body.

The public was shocked by photos that demonstrated the cruelty of the fashion industry. There, models have to maintain a “skinny” body to find work. The matter of weight and meals is sometimes a nightmare that happens even when they don’t sleep, constant and haunting throughout their career.

And what would happen if a model suffered from an eating disorder, received criticism for not being skinny enough, or made up her mind to lose weight and pursue her dream? The obsession with the standard body measurements of a professional model has caused many girls to diet and even go on hunger strikes in exchange for success.
