Billie Eilish reveals nightmare of facing ‘huge stampede’ of fans soon after becoming famous at 16… but she did not have enough money yet for security

Billie Eilish‘s fame rose to great heights at incredible speed, but her resources took a little while to catch up.

The singer-songwriter, 20, opened up how she lacked security early in her career in an interview with V Magazine.

During her first tour at just 16 years old, Eilish said she was insulated somewhat to her name blowing up, but that all changed when she tried to go ice skating with a friend.

‘It was a nightmare and it scared the living hell out of me, because I was just turned into this prop,’ she told the outlet.

She continued, ‘I’ve never been so scared. It was like, a huge stampede. In those three months, I’d gotten bigger, but I didn’t know it until I was in that situation.’

Without the money to pay for security, Eilish went on lock down in order to protect herself.

‘From that day on, I didn’t go anywhere,’ she said. ‘I didn’t do anything. I was so flipped out by what had happened and how powerless I felt.’

When asked whether her level of celebrity was restricting or freeing she responded that it was ‘an unbelievable 50/50.’

‘There are so many things that I would never ever be able to do if I didn’t have what I have, and so many things that I can never do again,’ she said. ‘And that, that’s the thing that is freaky—never—you know? Just hearing that word come out of my mouth freaks me out.’

Eilish’s fame will only get larger over the next few months. She will tour consistently from now until the end of of June with a few extra dates in September as part of her Happier That Ever tour.

The tour is named after her hit album of the same name which was released last July.

The star was awarded with seven Grammy nominations this year and could be the first woman to win Record of the Year three times with a victory this year.
