Sir Alex Ferguson snaps up £1.2million house next to footie manager son after selling home he shared with wife Cathy

Ferguson, 81, has three sons, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

His new pad is neighbouring with his football manager son Darren.

Darren Ferguson, 51, has had his own career in management and is currently in his third spell as Peterborough boss.

He has also coached the likes of Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers.

Ferguson had been living near Wilmslow with his wife Cathey until she passed away in October.

The couple had been living at the property for 20 years and was listed on the market for £3.5m.

The retired manager’s old five-bedroom home is said to be “impressive, deceptively spacious” and “very private”, according to the estate agent.

It featured an en-suite bedroom, a games room and some ‘Ferguson clan’ tartan carpet.6Ferguson will be a resident in the village of Goostrey, CheshireCredit: Alamy6There is a lovely pub in the villageCredit: Alamy

His time living at the house was not without any controversy.

In 2020, He lost a planning battle after he strongly objected to his neighbour’s application to demolish a two-storey house and build a three-storey mansion.

Fergie’s lawyers sent a five-page opposition letter to planners.

He claimed his privacy would be affected by removal of trees which would also impact the character of the area.

He said the removal of trees was “likely to have a significant impact on the character of the area and the existing privacy standards afforded”.

But planners decided to allow the scheme to go ahead.
