A new photo of season 4, featuring Karl Urban and Antony Starr, has been released days ahead of The Boys’ return on Prime Video in June.
We are fast approaching the season 4 premiere of The Boys on Prime Video, and Amazon has released a new image from the first episode.
In the image, posted to the official Twitter account for The Boys, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr) face off at a table, and there are clearly some issues that the two must be discussing. Given their history, how peaceful can this meeting between the two really be? We’ll find out soon enough.
Things are going to get insane pretty quickly when The Boys returns, and there’s a good chance that the madness will involve at least one of these two characters. Showrunner Eric Kripke has consistently been teasing that the first episode will include one of the “craziest” scenes that has ever been shown in any series. He recently told SFX Magazine that the first 15 minutes alone will shock viewers, even those who’ve seen how far the first two seasons had already pushed the envelope.
“One tease I can say is, in the first 15 minutes of episode one we have not just the craziest sequence we have ever done, but the craziest sequence pretty much anybody has ever done,” Kripke said. “It’s so jaw-droppingly insane. It’s so much fun. It’s the best job I have ever had, to think about this stuff. It’s always the frosting on the cake.”
He added, “If we are spending three weeks to break an episode, we spend two-and-a-half banging down on character, plot and emotion. Then, only when all the painful work is done, we take a break – it’s almost like a wine spritzer – and take a couple of days to say, ‘Now, let’s all think of the craziest sh*t we can to lay in on top of the hard work we had already done.'”
The Boys Won’t Waste Time Getting Insane in Season 4 Prime Video
Kripke also confirmed that the series will adapt the infamous “Herogasm” scene featured in the original comics. To put it simply, this refers to an all-out superhero orgy, and Kripke told SFX that filming the scene had left the crew looking “traumatized.” With that said, Kripke teases that the scene is “hilarious” and should please the fans of the original comic books. He also alludes to some powerful dramatic moments that somehow occur while all of this is going on.
“It’s a massive orgy and a hilarious, weird setting for the show. It’s infamous among fans of The Boys. One thing we managed is to get several genuinely emotional, heartbreaking scenes in that orgy. If there is anything that The Boys does well, we can break your heart in the middle of an orgy!”
