Buddy, a dog, made headlines a year ago after being the victim of a violent attack by a child that severely damaged his face. Buddy, on the other hand, never lost heart and made a miraculous recovery in recent months; and now, a year later, his new owner confirmed that Buddy is “completely cured” and doing well.Readers should be aware that this narrative contains disturbing images. Buddy originally made headlines in April when he returned home with horrific facial injuries after being set on fire. His flesh was charred and the agony was so intense that his eyelids swelled shut, leaving him blind. He also wore an extendable cord around his beak, which he said was used to restrain him.The perpetrator of the murder crime was finally identified as a young man, who admitted to setting the dog on fire, but could be punished because Mississippi law establishes that minors under 12 years of age can be charged. Buddy was sent to the Tunica Humane Society for treatment because his injuries were serious. His veterinarians were surprised when they warned the dog that he was on a long trip, noting that his “prognosis is not good.” According to Sandy Williams of the Tunica Humane Society, “it is incomprehensible that someone could be so clingy.” “Buddy was a friendly and very aggressive dog who followed children around the neighborhood.” “Buddy’s vital signs are good,” associate professor and veterinary surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Swaso told WtVA. “However, as with all belching patients, this is very much the base of a big mountain to climb.” Buddy was transferred to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine for additional care, and veterinarians were taken aback by his positive attitude in the face of adversity. The Humane Society wrote in an update: “He was in good spirits, wagging his tail and was quite cooperative.” Buddy’s coordination gradually improved. Buddy couldn’t see due to head damage, but veterinarians were relieved to discover that his eyelids had not been affected by the burping. The Humane Society reports that “he is cooperative in making progress daily.” All involved have praised his jump graft results, noting: “He has never let his doctors down.” Burps are hard to cure, but Buddy is fine.” “The appearance of his face has improved substantially thanks to today’s bandage change, and Buddy helped get some metals while he heals.”Buddy received grafts after a few months of rehabilitation, allowing him to gradually return to his old self with less damage. “He is happier and more playful because his ears are not covered by decorations.” The Tunica Humane Society posted last summer: “I’m sure he feels great pleasure as his life slowly returns to normal.” Buddy also reached a significant milestone in August when the bandages covering his face were removed, allowing him to see for the first time in months. According to the Humane Society, “his eyes were wide open and he was extremely conscious.” “YES, Buddy is still seeing it, thanks to your thousands upon thousands of prayers.”“Buddy’s last true vision occurred in the terrifying moments before a child set his face on fire.” “In the blink of an eye, this pet’s entire life changed.” The ability to see was a vital step in this sad dog’s rehabilitation, and his guards believe his personality has begun to emerge again. According to Sandy Williams of the Tunica Humane Society, “Buddy’s entire personality has changed since he experienced daylight.” “He is happy and playful, he walks around the hospital with a big ball in his mouth.” “He is a huge fan of balls and carries them around so everyone can see them.” Buddy, who was horribly burped a year ago, has now “fully recovered,” according to the Aimal Society. Buddy is doing well in Dr. Swapso’s foster home, according to the vet. According to the Tunica Humane Society, “his face is completely healed.” “He has to wear his beloved e-collar!” His days go by like those of any other dog. Play fetch, go for walks with him and pamper him because he is a good dog!“Buddy’s incredible recovery from his seemingly fatal injuries is undoubtedly a miracle, and all of Buddy’s caregivers should be tremendously pleased.” Buddy’s treatment team at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine was overjoyed and celebrated his recovery. “Lots of activities, hugs from everyone at the hospital and games later, she is thriving in his foster home!” The institution posted a photo of Buddy, who appeared to be in excellent spirits, on Facebook. It’s heartbreaking to remember Buddy’s tragedy, but we’re proud to see how far he’s come in one year. Thank you to everyone who has helped him recover so quickly.
