“Man of Many Talents”: During the Formula One Winter Break, Lewis Hamilton Discusses His Post-Retirement Plans

Despite a controversial climax to the 2021 season, where the 8th driver’s championship slipped from his grasp in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton returned with a vengeance. He expressed his commitment to securing an unprecedented record-breaking 8th world title. Sir Lewis Hamilton even went as far as saying that he wouldn’t quit until he got that championship during Sky Sports F1’s lie detector test. When asked “Are you going to keep going until you get your eighth title?” Lewis paused for a moment and simply said, “Yes!“

However, in a recent interview with French TV broadcaster, Canal+, the British racing icon peeled back the layers of his plans when he does indeed retire from the sport. He offered a glimpse into a life post-Formula 1 that promises to be as thrilling as his illustrious racing career. What are those plans? Well, you can be sure that they aren’t like your usual Formula 1 drivers have in mind.

Contrary to the expectations of a shift to other forms of racing, the 38-year-old Mercedes driver clarified that post-retirement, he won’t be found on professional circuits. Instead, he envisions a future filled with the thrill of parachute jumping and possibly even surfing, things he has always been passionate about.

“I love watching races like Le Mans, it looks incredible. I love Moto, I’ve always loved MotoGP, and I still do, I don’t think I’ll be doing any more competitions, at least not as a professional, It takes too much time, I’ll continue parachute jumping and surfing,“ the 7-time world champion’s comments were quoted by F1Briefings. This will probably come as a surprise to many, as the expectation for retiring drivers often leans towards a transition to other forms of motorsport.

Staying true to his words like he always does, Lewis Hamilton finds himself surfing the ocean tides as he winds down from a grueling season of racing where he helped his team achieve P2 in the constructors’ championship.

Lewis Hamilton fans pour admiration for the man who can seemingly do anything he puts his mind to

As the F1 Winter Break unfolds, allowing drivers to temporarily step away from the high-speed drama of the Grand Prix, Hamilton took to Instagram to share a snippet of his long-time hobby – surfing. The clip shows the champion driver gracefully riding the waves, showcasing a side of him that fans are quite familiar with.

The post prompted an outpouring of admiration from fans. It led to an influx of comments celebrating Hamilton as ‘The Most Interesting Man Alive.‘

One fan, drawing a playful comparison to the iconic Dos Equis beer commercials, remarked, “I just suddenly realized that you would be the absolute best person to continue the Dos Equis ‘Most Interesting Man in The World’ commercials.”

Amidst the sea of comments, another fan gushed, “Is there anything you can’t do!? ” – a testament to Hamilton’s versatility and excellence not only in Formula 1 but in various aspects of life. The admiration continued with a fan exclaiming, “Lewis setting new records in Surfing!“ and another creatively renaming him as “Lewis Surfmilton.“

One fan succinctly captured the sentiment of Lewis excelling in everything he does saying, “Talented in every sport.” Another simply declared his love for the 7-time world champion saying, “My favorite human.“

Hamilton’s decision to steer clear of professional competitions post-retirement might surprise some. But it aligns with his philosophy of savoring the joy of other things that matter to him.
