Mauricio Pochettino has now claimed that Chelsea are relying too much on 21-year-old Cole Palmer right now.

He said in his post-match interview with Amazon Prime Sport that the rest of the starting squad needed to step up and help the midfielder after another defeat last night.

Palmer found the net fantastically on the stroke of half-time last night against Manchester United, as he looked to drag his side back into the game at Old Trafford.

However, the Blues didn’t come out for the second half any better, and eventually lost 2-1.

The England international’s goal was his fifth for the club this season, and his first that didn’t come from the penalty spot since his £45m move from Manchester City.

Pochettino was full of praise for the player for his goal last night, however stressed that some of the squad had to step up and do their bit too.

Pochettino on PalmerHe said: “Yes but we can not put on his shoulders all our responsibility because he’s really young. He came the day before the market finished, he should be a player who helps us not take all the responsibility. But yes, very good goal.”

After his injury scare last weekend that saw him start from the bench against Brighton, it looks as if he is now back to full fitness and ready to contribute again.

He will be an absolute necessity in the 11 that lines up on Sunday to face Everton, with a return to winning ways imperative for Pochettino and his side.

He may be joined in attack soon by the returning Christopher Nkunku, whose quality has been sorely missed for the Blues since his injury in pre-season.
