Earlier this week, Taylor Swift was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2023. In her interview with the magazine, the 12-time Grammy winner opened up about her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — and her newfound love of football.

After Kelce attended one of Swift’s shows at Arrowhead Stadium this summer, he detailed his unsuccessful attempt to personally deliver Swift a friendship bracelet that he had made for her on his “New Heights” podcast. The mention caught the attention of Swift, who credits the shoutout as the beginning of their relationship.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift recalled. “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”

In the past, the Pennsylvania native had shown her support for the Philadelphia Eagles but was not a particularly dedicated fan.

“Football is awesome, it turns out,” Swift told Time. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”

Swift has been in the spotlight for nearly two decades but was caught off guard by the attention she garnered just by attending Chiefs’ games this season. Swift made it clear she has no control over how frequently the broadcast decides to show her at the games.

“I’m just there to support Travis,” Swift stated. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
