Manchester City fans must be desperate to have Kevin De Bruyne back right now – and there has been a small update on his injury.
So, what is the latest on Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
What Manchester City sources are now saying
Well, there was excitement on Wednesday when Pep Guardiola named the Belgian in his 23-man squad for the FIFA Club World Cup this month.
That suggested De Bruyne would be fit to take part.
Now – however – it is said that the Belgium international is not expected to play in Saudi Arabia.
The Athletic explain how the “word” coming from Manchester City sources is that the 32-year-old will merely be involved as part of the squad at the FIFA Club World Cup, taking part in activities off the field, but is still not ready to make a return to action.
De Bruyne himself told reporters at the recent Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that he expects to make a return in January, which is why Manchester City’s decision to include him in the 23-man squad generated such a response.
The Manchester City No.17 has only made two appearances this season, due to his hamstring issues.
Manchester City need Kevin De Bruyne back
Football is a team game, and others at Manchester City need to step up without De Bruyne amid a run of four Premier League games without a win.
However, there is no doubt that the Drongen-born playmaker will make a huge difference when he eventually returns.

Manchester City are lacking a goal threat from midfield without the inspirational Ilkay Gundogan timing his runs from midfield, while chance creation is also not as high.
The Citizens had just two shots on target in the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday night, so De Bruyne should help in that respect too.
Hopefully, the Belgian is back on the pitch as soon as possible.
