Aaron Rodgers strolled into MetLife Stadium on Sunday morning for the New York Jets game against the Houston Texans – but the wait goes on for him to return to the field.
Instead the legendary quarterback, who turned 40 last week, will try to inspire some form and confidence out of the returning Zach Wilson.
Wilson has toiled for the most part this season trying to step up as the main man for the Jets since Rodgers snapped his Achilles on the first day of the season against the Buffalo Bills.
He was benched after the 32-6 loss to the Bills on November 19, missing the last two games before being given a fresh shot by coach Robert Saleh.
Rodgers has admitted to having some guilt for the struggles Wilson has faced this season, given he was preparing to be No 2 to Rodgers for the entirety of the campaign.

He told Pat McAfee in November: ‘I feel for Zach. I love Zach. Zach’s such a great kid, and I do think he still has a bright future in the league.
‘This has been a tough go for all of us. A lot of times in these situations, there’s certain guys that have got to be the scapegoat. I think there’s enough blame to go around a number of different positions.
‘It was going to be me and my show, and Zach getting to learn and watch it first-hand, and not having the pressure to go out there and play.
‘So, obviously, this is disappointing. I have some personal guilt around the whole thing. I’m pissed I wasn’t able to play and frustrated that, you know, if I was out there then I feel like I’d be playing well, and there would be different narratives around our team.
‘So, I’m disappointed and sad about that, but it is what it is. We’re all going to support Tim and move forward, but we’re also gonna put our arms around Zach and love on him because he’s a great kid, and it’s not all his fault. This is the way it goes sometimes.’
The Jets are 4-8 in the AFC East going into the Texans game.
