Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples who have spent nearly four decades together. Hawn and Kurt are both in their 70s by now and enjoying their late years in life. The pair have a beautiful, blended family together, full of talented individuals.
Hawn and Kurt have an adorable and loving relationship, and their obvious affection for each other is more akin to a pair of teenage sweethearts than a couple that has been together since 1983. While Hawn and Kurt have both been married in previous relationships, they have not gotten married to each other; instead, they have enjoyed and are still currently enjoying a long-lasting and fulfilling relationship.
The couple is also well known for their big family, which consists of Hawn’s two children from her first marriage: Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson. Kurt’s son, Boston Russell, is from his first marriage. The couple also have a joint son together named Wyatt Russell. Somewhat unsurprisingly, most of their children have followed their famous acting parents into show business and have also gone on to have children of their own – making Hawn and Kurt grandparents.
Many people have wondered how Hawn and Kurt have managed to have such a happy and long-lasting relationship, especially in Hollywood. Throughout the years, the power couple has opened up about the personal details of their partnership over the years and has even shown their affection for each other in their social media posts.

Hawn and Kurt initially met in 1966 on the set of “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band,” but they didn’t start a relationship until nearly two decades later when they worked together on the movie “Swing Shift” in 1983. It seemed their age difference was the problem when they first met, as Hawn said in a 2012 BBC interview:
“I was 21 and he was 16. I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later we met up again, and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him. We both said we would never go out with another actor so it just shows you never can tell.”
Kurt recalled the time when he tried to impress Hann in a 2017 interview with Conan O’Brien.
“I was severely hungover and I didn’t know Goldie at all outside of having worked with her those many years before,” he remembered. “I just didn’t have in my mind what I was going to see, and she had a great body. So the first thing that came out was, ‘Man, you’ve got a great figure.’ It came out quickly and it could’ve gone wrong, and she said, ‘Why thank you.’
According to Hello!, the couple have been together since Valentine’s Day 1983. With a relationship as long as theirs, and in Hollywood, no less, it’s clear that they’re doing all the right things.
In April 2020, Hawn opened up to People Magazine about her relationship with Kurt and how he doesn’t hold back from telling her how he really feels.
“The other night we were going to go have dinner. He looks at me and goes, ‘You’re unbelievable. He said ‘I cannot believe how (beautiful) you look.’ He really appreciates that,” she recalled.

Hawn openly discussed the topic in a 2007 interview with Woman’s Day Magazine. When asked why they won’t head down the aisle, Hawn responded:
“Because we have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted and isn’t that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we’re fine.”
Hawn told Hello! Magazine in 2015 that she would have been “long divorced” if she had been married.
“Marriage is an interesting psychological thing. If you need to feel bound to someone, then it’s important to be married. If you have independence, if you have enough money and sense of independence and you like your independence, there’s something psychological about not being married because it gives you the freedom to make decisions one way or the other. For me, I chose to stay. Kurt chose to stay, and we like the choice.”
Kurt also talked about what really matters in his relationship with The Daily Mail in 2018.
“Everyone has their marker on what is really important and where you draw the line. For Goldie and me, that core value was this: the kids come first,” he said.
Not being married has definitely not deterred the pair from showing off their happy, long-lasting romance.
In a sweet birthday tribute on Instagram, Hawn posted an old video of the dynamic couple joking about a possible marriage proposal, and it highlights just how funny and warm both of them are.
“Happy birthday baby! What a wild ride. No, we never got married but one thing that continues to grow is our love,” she said. “I can’t imagine my life without you at any age, Kurt Russell. You’re the catch. And you’re all mine.”

The couple has been together for four decades, and seeing the couple’s relationship grow stronger and fonder throughout the years shows us that their love endured time and all the problems that married people commonly face.
Having been through a failed marriage, Kurt said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Tracy Smith that he had been determined to undermine his relationship with Hawn, especially in the initial stages:
“Matter of fact, when I met Goldie, I was at a time in my life, and a period in my life, when I was going to put my worst foot forward when it came to any kind of a relationship with the possibility of a relationship,” said the father-of-two. “I put my worst foot forward. If you can handle that, then maybe there’s a chance of some reality there of being together.”
This seemed to take Hawn by surprise, but Kurt insisted that he did, saying that he had been hungover the first time he met her: “Well, the first time I met her, I was horribly hungover. That’s not a good foot forward.” To which Hawn told Kurt, “But you were fun.”
When asked what the secret to their relationship is, the two actors shook their heads and said there is no secret.
“You’ve got to want to be together,” Hawn told The New York Times. Kurt shared her sentiment and said, “It’s up, and down, it’s sideways, it’s whatever. At the end of the day, how do you explain it? … It’s the same thing as what you’re saying. I call that love.”
