According to TMZ , Andy Stone sued Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff (co-authors of the song All I Want For Christmas Is You ) for copyright infringement . The lawsuit was filed in the Eastern District Court of Louisiana, USA.

In the document, Andy Stone confirmed that his song All I Want For Christmas Is You was recorded in 1989. The song was later widely broadcast and entered the Billboard chart during the 1993 Christmas season.

Mariah Carey released All I Want For Christmas Is You (same name) in 1994. Andy Stone believes that the singer was not allowed to use this title. Andy Stone demands at least $20 million in compensation.

In the article published by The New York Post , the content of the lawsuit reads: “The plaintiff personally requested the defendant to stop using the name of the plaintiff’s work. But the defendant continued to exploit the product All I Want for Christmas is You , reaping many financial benefits, while causing harm to the plaintiff.”

Andy Stone believes that Mariah Carey intentionally violated copyright to profit.

The New York Post and TMZ said they contacted Mariah Carey’s representatives but have not received a response about the incident.

All I Want for Christmas Is You , a classic song with 28 years of age, is considered Mariah Carey’s “gold mine”, helping her earn about 2.6 million USD per year. According to a report by The Economist in 2017, the song All I Want for Christmas Is You has earned a total of 60 million USD since its release in 1994.
